What visitors say
We’ve been here twice now - the kids loved it because it’s so interactive and there’s tonnes of stuff to do, they especially liked the illuminations bit. It’s right in the town centre so easy to get to and if you’re a local you get to go free ( make sure you bring proof - each adult has to bring a letter even if you live in the same house)

A unique and immersive tribute to Blackpool and its rich history of entertainment. We didn’t come to Blackpool to visit Show Town but it was recommended to us while we were there and we were very glad we paid the admission fees in the end. This is a museum with a difference and the creative, interactive displays are fun for all ages, at one point my 9 year old was enjoying a being part of a dancing video wall alongside an elderly man and his wife, all of us laughing out loud. I particularly enjoyed the illumination activities where you learnt to animate lighting sequences and also the vintage hand painted illustrations showing lighting designs from decades past. This museum is a must for everyone visiting Blackpool. I would especially recommend it to families and teachers looking for inspirational school trips.

We visited the Showtown Blackpool museum during Feb half term. We hadn’t booked in advance but thankfully they were able to accommodate our large group of 9. The children in our party ranged from 3 to 13 and all of them thoroughly enjoyed the experience. Being honest my 13 year old had a wobble in the first room as to whether he was going to enjoy it but he soon was immersed in designing Blackpool illuminations and testing his grip strength to find out if he made strongman status! We all even had a boogie after counting down the light display in the mirrored room! The highlight of the visit was the circus ringmaster leading a plate spinning workshop. He was thoroughly engaging and excellent with adults and kids alike. He took the time to remember names and had lots of tricks up his sleeve so even the worst among us by the end of the session had managed to spin a plate! Entry was very reasonable and we spent a good half a day inside with all the immersive activities. Highly recommend as a great family activity :)

We visited Showtown almost by accident and were very glad we did. Tucked away near Blackpool Tower, this modern museum tells the story of Blackpool’s entertainment heritage through a mix of objects, photographs, films, and interactive displays, suitable for both adults and children. The highlights for me were the exhibits on the Illuminations, Wakes Weeks, and Blackpool’s long association with entertainment. The museum does a great job of explaining why Blackpool became such an important holiday destination and how generations of visitors came here to enjoy themselves. As someone whose grandparents regularly holidayed in Blackpool and who grew up driving through the Illuminations with my family, I found parts of the museum particularly nostalgic. It’s well laid out, easy to explore in between an hour and ninety minutes, and wasn’t crowded during our visit. A fascinating and enjoyable museum that adds valuable context to a visit to Blackpool. Highly recommended.
