About The Calypso Hotel
Albert Road sits within easy reach of Blackpool's seafront and its well-known attractions, and it's here that The Calypso Hotel offers 39 rooms across a traditional, no-frills setup. The area is walkable, with pubs, restaurants and entertainment venues nearby, and free on-site parking is provided for those arriving by car.
Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms and the beds are a strong point, consistently singled out as comfortable. Breakfast is served each morning and is generally well regarded, while the on-site restaurant and bar offer further options without needing to venture out. Other facilities include a lift, free WiFi, a garden, luggage storage, laundry service and meeting rooms for those combining business with a stay. It should be noted that maintenance in some rooms has been inconsistent, with a few reports of bedding not being kept to standard, so it's worth being aware this can vary.
Staff are frequently described as friendly and helpful, and the overall price point makes it a reasonable option for those wanting a central Blackpool base without a high spend. Golf and fishing are available nearby for guests wanting to get outdoors, alongside the walking areas around the town itself.

What guests say
Families be aware. Extremely disappointing — we left within 15 minutes. We booked a room for our family of five, including three very young children aged 4, 2 and just 8 months for one night to break up the drive from London to Scotland. Unfortunately, the experience was so poor that we walked in and left within 15 minutes of arriving. We were allocated a room on the 4th floor (there is no lift) despite travelling with three young children and a pram. We were simply told to leave the pram in the bar area. This was wholly inappropriate and made the room completely impractical for our family. The room itself was also in an unacceptable condition. I have photographs showing a dirty fan and a ripped duvet cover exposing a dirty duvet underneath. The loft room was unbearably hot, so we were given a second fan. Unfortunately, that fan was also filthy and simply blew dust around the room. The room had virtually no natural light or ventilation — there would honestly have been more natural light and fresh air in a prison cell. The communal areas were being cleaned during our arrival, and the smell of bleach was extremely strong and headache-inducing. It appeared to be being used to mask the very strong smell of cooking coming from the on-site Indian restaurant, which made the overall atmosphere even more unpleasant. The mattresses were also extremely thin and uncomfortable. We appreciate that this was not an expensive room, but price should not be an excuse for basic cleanliness, ventilation, comfort and suitability. A hotel room should be provided with reasonable care and skill, and at an absolute minimum should meet basic standards of cleanliness. Overall, this was the worst hotel experiences we have had. We couldn't stay for more than 15 minutes and left rather than risk spending the night there with our three young children. We requested a refund but according to the manager, they ‘don’t advertise aircon or a lift’, so we aren’t entitled to one. We simply won’t leave it at this, and are continuing to pursue, but families please be aware when booking.

When I made a booking here I did so under the belief that there was an element of luxury, that's what I was left to believe. The bed and bedding was problematic from the moment I rested after the journey down there. The location is ideal but at the expense of noise from the street and absolutely no parking, 15 mins max unloading then you have to find a carpark or get a ticket. The owners are really nice and very helpful indeed so I do hope they acknowledge that their beds and bedding really do let down the stay.

DO NOT STAY HERE! As a family we were booked in the Myrtle B&B (just down the road) which Calypso has recently purchased. There was a used pair of men’s boxers by the bed which greeted us as we walked in! They didn’t service the rooms (we asked after day 3 as the bins needed emptying, which they did reluctantly). There is no one on site, even though they said there will be. We had to go to Calypso for breakfast, which is in an Indian restaurant next door, we only went twice as it was so bad. There are also constantly people sitting on the steps outside smoking. If you booked with the Myrtle (which was lovely before they got their hands on it), do yourself a favour and rebook elsewhere.
