About The Original Hut Company
The Original Hut Company sits in a beautiful spot just outside Bodiam, with Bodiam Castle practically on the doorstep and the steam railway a short stroll away. It's a properly family-friendly setup: there's a café that hosts pizza nights, a kids' play area, and the nearby river invites paddleboarding and swimming on warm days. Facilities are kept clean and well-maintained, with warm showers and eco-loos, and campfires are allowed to round off evenings under canvas.
Staff here are friendly and helpful, which makes a real difference when you're settling in. Choose from non-electric grass pitches or one of eight shepherd's huts if you fancy a touch more shelter. Note that pets aren't allowed on site, so it's one to bear in mind if you're travelling with a dog.

What visitors say
Had the best camping trip with friends and kids of various ages. Just brilliant site. Team so responsive and accommodating by email. Site gorgeous with river for swimming and SUP, campfires, great cafe for Friday night pizzas or breakfasts with zero washing up. And gorgeous wood fired sauna by the water. A fabulous weekend. Have stayed here many times and will do again!

Fantastic stay! The staff at The Hub are incredibly welcoming, and our pitch in the Poplars area was beautiful. It's an easy, short walk to Bodiam Castle with plenty of fun on-site activities. I really appreciated the staff keeping noise levels in check at night so everyone could sleep. Couldn't ask for a better campsite—will definitely be back!

Overall we had a good stay here. The good: - Location is fantastic. You can walk easily to Bodiam castle and the steam railway (and would recommend both) - No dogs policy is fantastic as everyone can relax and enjoy camping without dogs bothering them - Super flat, well maintained grass to camp on. - Facilities were kept clean. The not so good: - Toilets are a trek from the end of the field. It says they have more toilets on the field but that's not true. So if you're debating bringing a toilet tent with you, I would definitely do that. Our kids needed to use a potty a few times. - There arent many toilets (4 female, 3 male) or showers (4) for what seemed like a large site if it was full. We were fine as not all pitches were taken but if they were I think it would have been a problem. (Please put some hooks up in the toilets too as it's a pain not having anywhere to put anything!) - Only 1 drinking water point which is up by the toilets so you have to lug your water across the field. This is also where the washing up station is. - There is nothing useful to buy in the shop (milk, bread etc) so make sure you take everything you need with you! The cafe also only has very short opening hours. We took swim stuff thinking we'd go for a dip in the river. However the river did not look very inviting and is narrow, with a lot of very high reeds, so is not very safe for younger children, especially as there is no other exit onto the bank other than where you get in.

We stayed for 2 nights in one of the shepherds huts. When we arrived we were taken to the hut to be informed that a famous person would be staying in one of the huts across from us and that a film crew would be there. We questioned who was the famous person and family that would be staying to disappointingly hear it was Katie Price and two of her children. My two friends and I had this trip booked for months, the goal was to get away from our stressful lives and to be in peace and quiet with nature. Katie Price isn't a quiet person from what we learned and neither are her two children. Lots of shouting, swearing, weeing on the floor instead of using the toilets, and just disgusting behaviour. We were very lucky that they only stayed the one night but our little quiet boardgames night by the fire wasn't quiet and did ruin the experience. We ordered pizzas from the hub, after waiting for 40 minutes our order was wrong. We had 2 non dairy pizzas and one of them didn't arrive and the dairy pizza had non dairy cheese. 😕 not the best experience. Showers were lovely. Beeding ripped and torn, the double bed wasn't the comfiest unfortunately. The Epic life sports was awesome, totally worth it. Bodiam Castle awesome too and the pub close by had lovely food. I wouldn't stay in one of the huts again especially after the price I paid and what I got for the money was definitely not worth it but I would stay again in my tent or campervan but only because of the Epic sports and location.
