About The Connaught Lodge

Whether you're after a straightforward family break or a stopover with meeting space on hand, The Connaught Lodge in Bournemouth is built to cover both. Set on West Hill Road, it's within easy reach of West Cliff and the town centre, with cycling and walking routes, watersports and a golf course all nearby for anyone wanting to fill their days outdoors.

Rooms come with en-suite bathrooms, drinks and room service, and family rooms are available for those travelling with children, who are also catered for with kids' meals. The hotel runs a restaurant and snack bar alongside a bar and outdoor seating in the garden, plus breakfast and packed lunches for early starts. Guests can also make use of the indoor swimming pool, gym and spa or sauna, while a lift, free WiFi and laundry service take care of the practical side of a stay.

For business visitors, there are meeting rooms and business services on site, along with an electric vehicle charge point for those driving down. Beyond the hotel, the surrounding area offers pubs, restaurants and entertainment within easy distance. Feedback has been mixed, with a rating of 3.7 from 14 reviews, so it suits guests who want a functional, well-equipped base rather than a luxury stay.

In September, after my grandmother’s passing, we had to cancel our booking for the Christmas holiday she was looking forward to. The hotel did not return our deposit, and was unable to accomodate our request to use the deposit for a smaller set of rooms. If this were communicated kindly, it would be one thing, but they were quite terse considering the circumstances that led to us needing to change plans. Stars added because we enjoyed our stay in years past.

Stayed here for 2 nights and had an overall good experience. As previous reviewers have mentioned, the rooms are a little outdated and could really do with some freshening up. For example, our rooms had marks on the walls which need to be painted over, a cobweb in one of the corners and some quite old-fashioned furniture. It didn't look quite how it was advertised on Hotels.com! However, the rooms were quite spacious and did have all the basic amenities required for a pleasant stay, including air conditioning. A note regarding accessibility, we were staying on the top floor of the lodge and the building only had 1 very small lift, with only really enough space for 1 person and 1 suitcase. The main hotel amenities (breakfast, restaurant, spa, pool) were all in the main building and were all to a great standard (there is more detail about these areas in my review on the Connaught Hotel main building). Overall. I would recommend this hotel for it's convenient location in Bournemouth, spa facilities and value for money. My main area for improvement would be freshening up and modernising the rooms a bit.
