About Blackberry Wood
Blackberry Wood is a family-run site at Streat, tucked below Ditchling Beacon and roughly nine miles north of Brighton. Its calling card is woodland camping done properly: around twenty pitches, each in its own cleared glade among rambling trees, so neighbours are audible but rarely visible. Wheelbarrows wait at the gate for hauling gear to your spot, lending arrival the feel of a small expedition. Every glade has its own campfire and barbecue, and fires are actively encouraged.
Beyond the woodland and meadow pitches, the site has built a reputation for eccentric glamping – a gypsy caravan, a curvy cabin, a converted double-decker bus, a decommissioned fire engine, an actual helicopter and two elaborate handmade treehouses. Facilities are timber-built rather than corporate: showers, toilets, an on-site shop selling local produce and properly seasoned firewood, plus two play areas. It's worth noting there's no electric hook-up on every pitch, so bring what you need.
Open all year including Christmas and New Year, the site puts the South Downs Way within walking distance up the scarp slope, Lewes and Harvey's brewery a short drive, and Brighton twenty-five minutes by car.

We had the most wonderful week staying in Angus the Fire Engine over May half term. Everything was set up to ensure we had a wonderful time. From the incredibly friendly welcome we received when we arrived, the cleanliness and well thought through accomodation to the beautiful scenery and location. The Fire Engine has a parking area very close which meant it was really easy to unpack/pack everything up. There is a great play area for the kids just outside as well, in addition to the larger play area in the woods. My son loved the swing, ping pong table and Guinea pig world. The Fire Engine itself was fantastic. Clean beautifully presented with lots of attention to detail and fun elements (even the door handles are fire engines!). The shower had good pressure, the beds are so comfy and the induction hob made cooking so quick and easy. The best thing though, are the onsite team. They were just lovely to deal with and really took the time to make my son feel welcome as well. There were no issues whilst we were there, but I feel that I would have been in good hands, should there have been. We also loved the Fairy Forest School as well. It was a magical addition to a brilliant stay.

We stayed in the piggledy treehouse. Initially I thought was over priced but photos on website although good really don’t do the place justice in real life! It really is quite amazing. Worth the money in my opinion. It’s a real proper tree house! It is clearly very well insulated as was warm despite any heating on when windy and raining outside. It was so quiet just woodland noises. Everything we needed was provided. It is a great venue to visit whatever the weather. We will definately be returning. It’s going to be hard to choose whether to return to treehouse though or try out on of the other amazing places to stay. Even the camping I would consider as each pitch had their own little glade!

A lovely fairytale like campsite. Secluded camping spots for all sizes of tents, with good privacy. The toilet buildings are one of a kind in wood architecture, the insides are clean. Only negative thing was that it was hard to get a hold of them through the telephone to make a booking. 5/5 rating despite this, really cool campsite.

Amazing stay in the Higgledy tree house. Truly unique and hand made with such attention to detail. Lovely fires and well equipped only slight problem was logs were too big for inside log burner. All the staff were so friendly and helpful, very clean and would recommend
