About Upton Cross
Upton Cross is a modest, three-room bed and breakfast on County Road in Bude, the kind of small-scale property where personal attention counts for more than size. With just three rooms, each en-suite, it offers a quieter alternative to larger hotels along the North Cornwall coast.
Rooms are straightforward and comfortable, each with its own bathroom, and guests have use of a garden for some outdoor space during their stay. Reception operates around the clock, so arrival times are flexible, and parking is available on site, which is useful for those exploring further afield. Pets are welcome, making it a practical choice for travellers who don't want to leave animals behind.
Bude itself is a good base for the Cornish coast, with its beaches and coastal paths within easy reach. Upton Cross keeps things simple: a bed, a bathroom, a garden and a warm welcome for pets, all on County Road in the town.
What guests say
We stayed for a couple of nights and had a fantastic time. The car parking is free and spacious, which made arrival completely stress free. The room was spotlessly clean, and we received fresh towels and daily housekeeping. The location is brilliant, just a 30 minute walk to Widemouth Bay or Bude along a breathtaking coastal path. The full English breakfast must be the best in Cornwall! The owner cooks it fresh himself, and you can choose from traditional, vegetarian, vegan, or continental options. We also enjoyed great-tasting French press coffee and fresh orange juice. The owner was incredibly attentive, always checking if we needed refills, more toast, or hot cross buns. As a wonderful bonus, there are alpacas, geese, and donkeys in the field. The property is very dog-friendly; while the dogs in the communal room were lovely and the space felt exceptionally clean, it might not be the ideal place for you if you aren't fond of dogs. When we return to Cornwall, this is definitely the place we will stay. Thank you for a wonderful time!

I spent four wonderful days with my beloved at the fantastic Upton Cross B&B. The owners are incredibly kind, warm, and helpful, making you feel right at home from the very first moment. The breakfasts were delicious and prepared with great care. I highly recommend this charming B&B, situated in a quiet, peaceful location by the ocean. Highly recommended! Warm regards to the owners.

We had such a lovely stay with Flavio and Steve, not only is this place very reasonably priced but the hosts go to such effort to ensure you are well cared for. We were absolutely spoilt with kindness and generosity during our stay. The b&b was perfect for what we wanted, lovely comfortable home, rooms were stocked with everything you might need with lovely little touches, and our horse was even accommodated on site. We loved all the animals and Flavio's devotion to offering them another life. The location is pefect, walking distance to two of Cornwalls most superb beaches and directly on the coastal path for those hiking. I can't recommend this B&B enough, if you are an adventurer on the road...you must stay here!

If accommodation were a colour, Upton Cross B&B wouldn’t be the usual run-of-the-mill beige – it would be glorious Technicolor. This wonderfully quirky rabbit warren of a house is packed with fascinating memorabilia and offers a nostalgic step back in time. Steve and Flávio are exceptional hosts, welcoming guests as though they were long-lost family members rather than paying visitors. My room overlooked the garden, with views stretching to the sea and a delightful menagerie of animals, including alpacas, donkeys, geese and chickens. The house is wonderfully dog-friendly and the four charming elderly dogs who roam freely indoors and out quickly make you feel as though you’ve known them forever. In Oscar the Pointer’s case, there may be a slight ulterior motive when food is involved, but he’s easy to forgive. The room itself had a retro charm that suited the character of the house perfectly. The shower was an intriguing contraption that seemed more enthusiastic about washing the bathroom floor than its occupants but somehow that only added to the experience. Leave your expectations at the door and enjoy Steve and Flávio’s generous hospitality, and prepare yourself for a truly knockout breakfast. I’ll definitely be back.
