About Red Kite Barn
Suspended among the trees near Builth Wells, Red Kite Barn's tree tent offers a genuinely unusual glamping retreat in the Powys hills. The structure itself is striking – a canvas pod hoisted into the canopy, fitted with a proper double bed (made up on arrival) and, rather brilliantly, a log burner that transforms chilly evenings into something properly romantic. A welcome hamper sets the tone, and the whole setup feels more considered than typical canvas-and-pole affairs.
It's strictly adults-only, which suits the peaceful, remote setting – walkers and mountain bikers will find plenty of trails threading through the surrounding forest and farmland. Campfires and barbecues are allowed, showers and washing-up facilities are on hand, and the location puts you within reach of canoeing, climbing and fishing if you fancy varying the pace. The scenery delivers, too: expect red kites wheeling overhead and that particular Mid Wales quiet that's hard to find elsewhere.

We recently spent a few days at Red Kite Barn, what a wonderful place. It’s probably the first break we’ve had that was a true ‘break’ A break from having to do anything, if you don’t want to, no shops, no people, no cars, no phone signal (you can use their Starlink internet if you just can’t handle it) and no stress. If you really want to relax, get up when you want, eat when you want or pretty much just do nothing, this is the place. We were lucky to have some beautiful weather and made use of the relaxing hot tub, with a beer or two of course. We enjoyed some walking and looking at the other accommodation available, which looked more rustic but great fun if you like to have a more ‘camping’ kind of feel. All I would say is that the decking area could do with a little attention, which I have fed back and am assured it is being looked at. So, would I go back? Absolutely, in fact I didn’t want to leave. Three days was enough to make me realise how amazing it is to get away from the noise of life. Even our 7 year old wasn’t bored, she played outside, named all the sheep and enjoyed feeding the pigs. If you’re looking for a relaxing stay, in a barn that has all you need, then I would highly recommend looking at Red Kite Barn. We will definitely be going back.

What a beautiful and unusual place, off grid but with all top class amenities. An enormous amount of work and research and imagination must have gone into creating this space. We were there in March and was very cosy and warm. Everything worked. Wonderful views of countryside and wildlife. Would go again. Perfect. Loved the ponies and the pigs loved our vegetable leftovers. Wonderful creatures. Sorry pictures wouldn't do it justice.

We enjoyed a 3-night stay at RKB. It really is in the middle of nowhere! Everything you needed was there. We spent the days exploring the area and then hunkered down to a cosy fire in the evenings. You can see a lot of love and thought has gone into the barn.

Our second time and it was wonderful. If you like rural peace and quiet it's for you. The depth and variety of bird song is something you rarely experience. Two pairs of house martins and a pair of swallows are nesting on the barn. We saw the hare, many sheep with large inquisitive lambs, ponies and two enormous, friendly pugs moved in next door. The facilities were good, the hot tub was well used and the couple who work there were really helpful and flexible. It's the most wonderful location. Sun loungers would be a great extra plus an outdoor shelter so you you sure outside in the unlikely event if it raining! (If you use the griddle indoors on high heat the smoke alarm will be stimulating!) Ps don't do the suggested walk to a local pub - it's closed.
