Red kites circle overhead in this part of Mid Wales, and the countryside around Builth Wells holds castles, country houses and gardens worth driving to see. Kite 1 sits in a secluded valley 8 miles from the market town, part of a small cluster of converted farm buildings on 3 acres of woodland and open ground. The setting is genuinely rural, with a fishing lake 100 yards away and plentiful wildlife to watch from a quiet corner.
The cottage itself is compact and on one level: a combined living and dining room with a sofa bed and television, a kitchen fitted with electric cooker and dishwasher, one bedroom with two single beds, and a bathroom with bath and shower. Washing machine and tumble dryer are in a shared utility room. The essentials—heating, electricity, bedding, towels and Wi-Fi—are included. Four people can sleep here, though space is tight for longer stays.
The real draw is what surrounds it. Guests share an indoor heated swimming pool, a games room with console and television, a 6-hole mini golf course, and a large enclosed garden with furniture and a play area for children. Fishing on the lake requires a licence. There is parking for two cars on site. The nearest shop is 5 miles away; a pub and restaurant 8 miles in Builth Wells. No smoking indoors.

Beautiful place - I come back here every year as it is so beautiful and peaceful. Emma and Amy are very welcoming. Everything is very tidy and clean and I enjoy the walks and swimming in the pool. Thank you for a lovely stay.

We had an amazing time at the cottages, such a good relax and in such a stunning location. You can just sit for hours and watch the cows and sheep in the hills or the birds flying around the pond and trees. We will definitely be visiting again that's for sure. 👌 The pool was really warm and the sauna was a nice touch. The rooms were lovely and really clean and well presented. The one and only negative thing was our DVD player did not work in the cottage but you didn't really need it with the amazing scenery and included Freeview. 😊

Fab gem - A great stay here at Lake cottages we had the robin Studio cottage and it was perfect. Everything you need for a self catering break was supplied. The cottage was clean. The bed comfortable. The location is absolutely amazing the surroundings breathtaking a wonderful break with family. We enjoyed using the fire pit and toasted our marshmallows of a evening and having breakfast outside with the hillside views priceless absolutely fab place to stay I would give 10 stars so as you can see I highly recommend it🤗 there was only one tiny criticism the games Room was slightly disappointing. I was told they were things missing , IE pool table balls & couple of other things . But this is my only criticism. There was no one on reception when we discovered this and then had forgotten to mention it on our return the next day so maybe some member of staff can check the games room and it’s facilities Thankyou lake cottages we will return ☺️

We absolutely love coming here, it never fails to blow us away! The accommodation is always warm on arrival and immaculate. The views are good for the soul and the indoor pool and games room are an extra bonus. All the staff are warm and friendly. We can’t wait to book again for next year!
