Tucked onto a peaceful working sheep farm just ten minutes from Builth Wells, Cwm Wye Camping is a small, off-grid site where simplicity is the point. Campfires are allowed, showers and drinking water are on hand, and the rural quiet feels genuinely restorative—ideal if you're after a proper break from screens and schedules (there's no WiFi). The River Wye runs close by, and the location makes a handy base for exploring mid-Wales on foot or by bike.
Note that dogs aren't permitted, so it's one to consider if you're travelling without pets. Families often appreciate the gentle farm setting and the chance to slow down properly for a few nights.

Tanya was a welcoming and obliging host, even offering to run us down to the pub in the evening. Her campsite was clean with good facilities and lots of lovely touches. You can walk down for a dip in the river through the field at the bottom of the campsite. Thank you Tanya!

Fantastic campsite. Low density camping with lots of space in between tents and the grass and meadow flowers left uncut to grown in between pitches. For a place to camp and retreat from busy urban life this is spot on, with a small wooded area part of the site offering birdsong in the evenings and mornings and the opportunity for children to have a bit a freedom to explore with no vehicles around. The facilities are basic with long-drop toilets, 1 shower and 1 washing up point, but all of them are well maintained and clean. The location is fabulous, the river Wye is just a few minutes walk away, and there are also lots of great walking and cycling opportunities from the site. The owner was super helpful and friendly as well which makes a real difference. Highly recommended.

Stayed in the bell tent and had a great weekend despite a bit of rain. Hot showers, kitchen facilities with running water and compost loos all well maintained. Great location to strike out for walks or rides along the river. Close enough to town if you want supplies or a pub lunch.

We are local to the area only being 5 miles away, but wantee a quiet chilled night camping with the kids. We couldn't have been more thrilled with Cwm Wye. The site is beautifully maintained thanks to Tanya. A nice surprise to see HOT water showers. The composting toilets are immaculately maintained and cleaned daily (sometimes multiple times!). Can't beat location for tranquility, it was actually some sort of free therapy i'm sure. A short walk down to the river on a sunny evening was therapeutic, and the woodland area was just magical for the kids (and adults). There is no small touch that Tanya hasn't thought of, and no request was too big. Despite being a life long local, I won't hesitate to make a camping trip to Cwm Wye an annual occasion. My kids are self confessed screen addicts and to see them enjoying the site was just blissful.
