About Lake Country House Hotel & Spa
The Lake Country House Hotel & Spa dates from 1840, when it was built as a hunting and fishing lodge, and has since been developed into one of Mid Wales's best-known country house retreats. It stands in extensive grounds a few miles from Builth Wells, near the village of Llangammarch Wells, surrounded by lakes, woodland and the River Irfon.
The hotel is built around a full spa, with an indoor pool, treatment rooms and relaxation areas, alongside elegant lounges, open fires and a restaurant serving a seasonal, produce-led menu. Bedrooms range from classic country house rooms to more contemporary suites, many looking out over the gardens or lake.
Its setting appeals particularly to couples looking for a spa break or a quiet countryside stay, as well as anglers drawn by the hotel's own fishing rights on the Irfon, and it makes a peaceful, well-appointed base for exploring the Wye valley and Cambrian Mountains around Builth Wells.

What guests say
We visited this wonderful hotel as a group of three couples for Sunday lunch, and from the moment we arrived we knew we were in for something special. The setting is simply stunning, with breathtaking views across the hills and lake, creating a wonderfully relaxing atmosphere. The staff were exceptionally warm, friendly and attentive throughout our visit. We began with drinks in the elegant lounge, accompanied by complimentary apéritifs, which was a lovely touch. Lunch itself was outstanding. Every course was beautifully presented and delicious, and the service was impeccable. Nothing was too much trouble for the team, who went above and beyond to ensure we had a memorable experience. After lunch we enjoyed coffee on the terrace, taking in the magnificent scenery before strolling around the lake. It was the perfect end to a truly special afternoon. This is a hotel that excels in every aspect—spectacular surroundings, exceptional food and first-class hospitality. We will most certainly be returning and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a truly outstanding dining experience.

We had a wonderful stay. I rated a 4 star for the room, purely because it had no mini bar fridge in it, therefore, we were unable to keep drinks/snacks cool in the hot weather (we stayed in one of the lodges) but it was a lovely large room with bathroom, clean and well presented. The spa was lovely and I thoroughly enjoyed the treatments, all staff and the owners were accommodating and friendly. The jacuzzi overlooking the lake was beautiful. The food was delicious, we sat on the patio overlooking the grounds to eat. The grounds were absolutely stunning, fantastic walks, a lake, a river, golf course, mini golf, croquet and a tennis course. My 12 year old enjoyed all these facilities. I have been to many spas and I can honestly say...this is the best I have ever been too. We look forward to staying again soon. Thank you x

Just had a two night stay there. The hotel, service and food were all excellent. The surroundings are tranquil. Had a lovely walk around the grounds, along the river and through the wooded area. The house was delightful, the lounge and reception area had plenty of sofas to sit and relax in. There are games and books / magazines available to read. The bedrooms are spacious and very well presented. Temple Spa products are available to use in the rooms. The breakfast and dinner were both plentiful and cooked to a high standard. Local fresh produced used. A delight for anyone who is a foodie and/or trying to avoid ultra processed food. The service was exceptional, the staff were very attentive to your needs and nothing was too much for them. The owner was on hand too. My husband and I had a massage, which was thoroughly enjoyed by us both.

I was lucky enough to have a spa break at the hotel. The hotel is in a beautiful location and I felt relaxed as soon as I walked through the door. It's cozy and comfortable, with lovely staff who couldn't do enough for us. The food was fabulous as was the service. The spa is lovely too and my treatment was divine, I particularly liked that we could have used the facilities on the day we left too. I particularly loved the history of the place, the first entry in the first guest book was from 1894, it was wonderful to think about all those people who have travelled to get there and what it must have been like then. I would absolutely recommend staying here and I will definitely be returning. Thank you.
