Family touring park with a heated pool, on the Thetford Forest fringe near the Norfolk border

About Dower House Touring Park

Dower House Touring Park sits just over the Norfolk border at East Harling, on the edge of Thetford Forest and around 18 miles north of Bury St Edmunds. Open late March to end of September, this long-established family park offers pitches for touring caravans, motorhomes and tents, plus a handful of shepherd's huts for couples after a fixed roof. The free heated outdoor pool runs through summer, and an on-site pub serves food alongside a pool room and board games for wet evenings.

Children have a log-built play area, badminton and volleyball nets, and football goalposts, while a well-stocked shop covers most essentials without a trip into town. Dogs are welcome, with woodland walks straight from the site. The location suits both exploring Thetford Forest's cycling and walking trails and day trips into Bury St Edmunds or across to Thetford itself, though some visitors note the facilities can feel a little tired in places. Twenty-four-hour wardens and a genuinely long season make it a reliable choice for family holidays through spring, summer and early autumn.

We had a fantastic weekend at Dower House, being able to select your pitch ahead of time was brilliant, so I could keep an eye on the kids playing on the playground. Big shout out to all the staff, it was really busy weekend but they worked hard to make everyone feel welcome. I was travelling on my own with my two grandchildren and they even helped me sort out my gas bottle that wasnt working! Fantastic facilities, the shower block and toilets really clean and good atmosphere in the pub. I would highly recommend this camp site.

We stayed for a weekend and would have given it more than 5 stars as we had an amazing time. We stayed with our children who just loved the whole place. The food was amazing so much so we ate out both nights there. The pool was clean and lovely and warm. Everyone was super lovely to talk to and made you feel really welcome. Looking to book again very soon.

Mike, the "manager", is friendly and does a good job, but he's controlled by the park owners, who are awful. The site is looking better in some areas, but most of it is done on the cheap. The new wristband for swimming slots needs a drastic rethink, as it's unfair, especially when people book slots just in case. The shop closes too early. The family feel has gone, which makes me sad. The lady in the shop and bar wanders around with a vape in her mouth and is quite rude and blunt. Natalie (or another name beginning with N) is also a delight. I say that with gritted teeth. Maybe the staff need a pay rise to make them happier. I"m sure the owners will respond with comments about spending money on the pool this year, yes but where else has money been well spent?

Definitely our happy place in the beautiful woods! The staff here work tirelessly to make sure that everyone has a good time and the addition of home cooked food is very welcome! Showers are much improved and whole site is looking smart and cared for. We can’t wait to be back again and again!
