Smithy Lodge at Heaton Park

Bury

Photo: Google Maps

Smithy Lodge began life as a gatehouse to Heaton Park in 1806, and its eight-sided structure still marks it as something from another era. The building is Grade II Listed, which means the steep narrow stairs and period character come as part of the package—there are no handrails, and lighting relies mainly on lamps rather than modern fittings. It sleeps 4 across two bedrooms: one with a super king bed, one with two singles. There is one bathroom with a bath and shower, and a ground-floor living room and kitchen/dining space. You have the whole place to yourself.

The kitchen has an electric oven, hob and microwave for cooking. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included. Outside is a lawned garden with a sitting area, and parking for one car is provided on site. The lodge stands within Heaton Park itself—one of Europe's largest municipal parks—so stepping outside puts you straight into green space rather than onto a street. Smoking is not permitted inside. Check-in is after 4pm and checkout before 9am.
