About Woodthorpe Hotel

Bury Old Road runs through the northern edge of Manchester, and the Woodthorpe Hotel sits along it as a straightforward, easy-going base rather than a destination in itself. The surrounding area has pubs, restaurants and a golf course within reach, along with other spots for evening entertainment, making it a practical option for those wanting to explore the wider city without staying in the centre.

Rooms are en-suite, with family rooms available and drinks provided in-room, and there's free WiFi throughout for anyone needing to stay connected. Guests can eat on site at the restaurant, with breakfast included, or make use of the bar, and the garden and outdoor seating area offer a place to sit outside when the weather allows. Reception operates around the clock, which suits guests arriving at odd hours.

One of the more useful features here is the free on-site parking, not always a given for hotels this close to Manchester. It's a simple, functional place to stay, well suited to those who want comfortable basics and a handy spot for getting out to explore the local pubs, restaurants and golf course nearby.

The food is very expensive for what you get and compared to other holts pubs we have visited not at all worth the money. Myself and my son ordered the HMP cheese and onion pie, chips and beans. The pie was nice enough but not very big and the chips were terrible. They were very pale , very cheap tasting and some were actually hard. Beans are ok as far as beans go but for £14.95 each we felt our money would have been better spent elsewhere. I/we won't be returning any time soon, if at all. Very disappointed.

Love this place, great atmosphere, lovely staff and customers. Great bitter and really like the house red. Food yummy and great value. We had the valentines steak and fries deal, which we really enjoyed. Extremely dog friendly. Well worth a visit.

Good food at reasonable prices. Once I'd moved swiftly through two potential rooms for dining that I avoided because of the large, blaring TVs, we settled on one that could fairly claim a good ambience. The staff were sweet but not the most switched on. Food was a highlight; a good roast beef. My dining companions enjoyed their dessert, too. If you come on a Sunday, arrive at opening time at noon. It was packed by one pm.

Recent stay at this hotel, overall as expected. Very grand exterior hides behind it less grand rooms. Rooms smaller than photos suggests. Also, some mould on walls not a good look. Pub, food, and dog friendly aspects are all excellent. Also staff friendly and attentive.
