About The Gonville Hotel

The Gonville has looked out over the southern corner of Parker's Piece since the 1830s, when the original property was built, and it remains one of the few substantial independent-feeling hotels in central Cambridge - it now trades as a member of Radisson Individuals while keeping its own name, staff and character. The historic centre begins a five-minute walk away across the common, and Market Square is about ten minutes on foot.

Bedrooms run across eight categories, from compact Cosy rooms through Standard, Superior and Family options to the Gresham Premium rooms and a Premium room with its own terrace. The upper grades are considerably more generous in size and the ones facing the common get a green outlook that is unusual for a city hotel. Decoration is comfortable and traditional rather than fashionable, which is part of why the hotel has such a loyal following among returning visitors and visiting academics.

The Gonville Kitchen serves Italian-leaning food with garden views, the Long Bar handles drinks and lighter plates, and the Gonville Garden is used for outdoor dining and afternoon tea in summer. Gresham House Wellness offers ESPA facials, massages and body treatments. Two things set the hotel apart from its neighbours: complimentary bicycles, which is standard enough in Cambridge, and a Bentley tour of the city, which is not - classic cars are also available to hire. There is on-site parking for a charge, a real advantage this close to the centre, and free high-speed wi-fi throughout.

We recently got married in The Terrace at The Gonville Hotel, where we held our ceremony, wedding breakfast, evening reception and breakfast the following morning, and we honestly had the most wonderful day. A huge thank you to Michelle, our Wedding & Events Manager, who supported us throughout our wedding planning journey. She was always warm, approachable and genuinely wanted us to have the best possible day. Wedding planning inevitably comes with lots of questions and last-minute changes, and Michelle was always willing to help and accommodate our requests wherever possible. The Terrace is a beautiful, light-filled wedding space and created the perfect setting for our celebrations from start to finish. The food was excellent, and so many of our guests commented on how lovely everything was. We made memories that we will treasure forever. Thank you to Michelle and all of the team for helping make our wedding day so special. Michelle’s support throughout the planning process was greatly appreciated, and we wouldn’t hesitate to recommend The Terrace at The Gonville Hotel to other couples looking for a beautiful wedding venue.

A beautiful car crash of a hotel. Location is excellent. Staff friendly but stretched thin. Aircon was great on a hot day. Things to improve: 1. On-site parking arrangements needs clearer explanation online. Had to park in the neighbouring multi-storey. 2. Breakfast on Sunday morning was chaotic at best. Too few staff, too little food, no hot water for tea, no breakfast tea bags, fresh cutlery dumped in piles on the side, no teaspoons, tables covered in left over plates and breakfast crumbs. Many guests who had paid far more for their rooms than us looked in shock. 3. Corridor was littered with cleaning apparatus for several hours with no sign of the cleaner. If this hotel is marketed as a premium experience, then the breakfast and housekeeping in corridors needs major improvements when the hotel is busy with multiple private events. Specifically the breakfast was a major detractor.

We had the most amazing wedding at the Gonville this week. The entire process was smooth and made easy by the events team who were so accommodating and thoughtful. Communication with them was really good and I felt at ease with all of the planning because we were in good hands. Accessibility was important for us and the venue was perfect for our elderly guests. We used the Teepee space and garden and the venue was completely beautiful. We had members of our family who wanted to do a surprise for us and this was handled entirely without our knowledge discreetly and was pulled off with ease. Attention to detail throughout was super and we felt guided through the planning process: We were made to feel special throughout the day, it was a wonderful experience. The food was incredible, we have had so many compliments on how fantastic it was. As a gluten free bride, I had so many options available to me, and all of them were delicious, and presented beautifully. The night of the wedding we stayed in Gresham house, and the room was beautiful, and there were some really lovely little touches done again to make us feel special. The day was everything we wanted it to be, I want to say a massive thank you to the whole team. You have been accommodating, fun and made the experience a joy! Vita and George

V comfortable & only few minutes walk into the centre & collages with excellent restaurants. The staff are courteous and efficient. A special mention goes to the breakfast staff who worked hard with a smile - no ask was too great. Thank you to you all!
