What visitors say
This was the second museum we visited with the kids during our purely educational trip to Cambridge on 7th February, and it was an absolute highlight... Founded in 1816, the history of this stunning building is incredible. Inside, there are over half a million masterpieces, armor & ancient treasures. The kids were completely fascinated by the massive Egyptian sarcophagi (coffins) & the ancient Greek galleries. It is highly engaging for families. They offer fantastic activity trails & family guides that keep the kids actively searching for specific details in the paintings and artifacts, making the learning experience super interactive. staff is Incredibly welcoming & helpful, especially when guiding us toward the best family routes. The indoor Courtyard Kitchen was lovely—perfect for a quick pit stop for snacks, warm drinks, and delicious cakes. A beautiful gift and small bookshop is located right inside, filled with wonderful educational toys, books, and unique souvenirs. Well-maintained toilet facilities and baby-changing spaces are available throughout the building. General admission is completely FREE Open Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Sundays from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM (Closed Mondays). There is no on-site visitor parking at the museum, but the Grand Arcade car park is just a short 10-minute walk away and very convenient. A wonderful, enriching experience for the whole family.

Beautiful museum. Wonderful examples of ancient artifacts. All were well displayed and identified. Interesting collection of art. So happy to find an El Greco I hadn't seen before. And free admission...donation gladly made.

★★★★★ Lovely museum and a must-visit in Cambridge. Free entry, which is a real bonus. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful, making sure we knew about the different areas and galleries to explore. I particularly enjoyed the commentary throughout the museum. The descriptions alongside the exhibits were informative and well balanced – not too short and not too long. The café is also worth a visit. It’s a modern, bright and sunny space, perfect for a coffee or light lunch. The gift shop is excellent too, with a good selection of books, cards and souvenirs. Overall, a very well-presented museum with fascinating collections. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Cambridge.

The museum contains various relics of the past, including big sections of Ancient Egyptian mummies, Sculptures from Ancient Rome, and much more. The owl with the removable head was quite cool as well. There are 2 floors, one containing cool pieces of history, and one containing paintings and modern art. You are given a map upon entry, too.
