About The Wellington Inn and Caravan Park
The Wellington Inn and Caravan Park sits in the peaceful village of Great Orton, just west of Carlisle – an area the hosts proudly call 'Cumbria's best-kept secret'. Away from the Lake District's busier corners, you're surrounded by nature reserves, forests and a gorgeous stretch of coastline that rewards exploration. The site itself is small and well-kept, tucked behind a friendly village pub (open Wednesday to Sunday) that serves excellent, locally sourced food – think tender roast beef and hearty steak pie – alongside regularly changing real ales at competitive prices. Staff are welcoming, locals are chatty, and the beer garden is perfect for unwinding with your dog after a day out.
Carlisle's shops and attractions are roughly 10 minutes by car, while the Scottish border at Gretna Green is only 20 minutes north, making this a handy stopover on longer road trips. The village butcher is a short stroll away if you fancy a barbecue. Note that there are no showers on site and toilets are only accessible during pub hours, so facilities are basic – but if you're after a low-key, convivial base with a proper pub on the doorstep, it's hard to beat.

What visitors say
Stayed the night on a lovely little site with hookup. Beautiful little pub with beer garden. Very friendly staff. Food was brilliant. We particularly liked the broccoli and cheese bake. The fish and chips was immense. We would highly recommend this place.

We found this amazing little site on pitch up as we needed a stop over for one night before carrying on to Scotland the next day. The pitches are lovely and the wellington pub is also lovely. The pub was hosting an open mic music night, which was really good and the landlord , Barry agreed that our 10 year old daughter could sing, even though she didn’t have an instrument to play. I would throughly recommend this site, the pitch is well maintained and the pub and food was amazing, as was the landlord, barmaids and locals. We had a brilliant night and will be returning x

A fantastic local pub. Friendly landlord and staff. A good supply of regularly changing ales and excellent, locally sourced foods. Beer prices are very competitive and always well kept. Locals at the bar are always friendly and ready to include you in their conversations. Barry - the hard-working landlord, is a BRILLIANT host who will go above and beyond to make a visit memorable. The pub also is a camper/caravan park and is clearly popular as it always seems to have people using it. There are regularly held events including a music night.
