About Camping at Cardewlees

Tucked into the rolling countryside near Dalston, Camping at Cardewlees is a working farm where Cumbrian hospitality meets practical camping comforts. Beyond the standard grass pitches (25 in total, 15 with electric hook-up), there are cosy pods with enclosed gardens – perfect if you're travelling with dogs or children who can watch the farm animals from a safe vantage point. The facilities are reliably clean and the staff genuinely helpful, making this a welcoming base for exploring Carlisle and the northern Lakes.

Campfires are allowed, adding to the rural charm, though some visitors note the bins can overflow during busier periods. Still, with stunning pastoral views and great value for money, it's a solid, unpretentious choice for a Cumbrian break.

Lovely campsite, it was fully booked but that doesnt mean you have no room, theres plenty of space for each pitch. Toilets were kept clean and stocked. Shower was very good. Little shop with honesty box but they also provided me with links to pay for good online which was much appreciated. They offer food if you let them know what you'd like. Everyone seemed to respect the rules and there wasn't people up making noise through the night. Good communication through messages. Would definitely stay again.

We had the most amazing stay at Cardewells and honestly couldn’t recommend it more! The enclosed private garden was perfect for our puppy, it was his first holiday and he absolutely loved having the space to run around safely. The glamping pod itself was fantastic; it stayed lovely and warm and was surprisingly soundproof, making it really cosy and relaxing. The toilets and showers were clean and the location of them were ideal to where we were staying. The location is great too, just a 20-minute walk into Dalston, with easy access to the train into Carlisle and surrounding areas. Johnny was an absolute star, so friendly, hardworking, and genuinely couldn’t do enough for us. We also tried the food on site and it was delicious. Nothing was ever too much trouble, and the whole place has such a welcoming, accommodating feel. We especially loved seeing all the farm animals, such a lovely touch and made the stay even more special. We’ll definitely be back in the summer and will be recommending Cardewells to all our friends and family. Such a brilliant little find!

We have just visited Camping at Cardewlees for the first time. We all absolutely loved it. Very friendly, quiet site with fantastic views and sunsets. Facilities were basic but clean, small pop up bar area serving drinks, pizzas chips etc was a great place to hang out in the evening for a few pints and chat. The small town nearby, Dalston was lovely with a Coop, independent shops, parks and lovely walks. Carlisle is very close by , we visited the indoor leisure pool there. So glad we found this little gem and we will be back. Thank you

We stayed for 2 nights, we were going a wedding evening at nearby dalston hall. This site sounded perfect for us. Upon arrival, Johnny, the farmer and owner, seen us at the top of the lane, he came up and said we could go into the field nearby, as we were booked with no electric, lovely fella, very chatty, as we Cumbrians are, said to pitch up where we want, went near the pizza hut and bar, great little addition, we didn't try any food but a couple were sat on the benches enjoying theirs, had a drink from the bar before we left for the wedding night. Fresh water and elsan point near toilets. Toilets , two male and two female, adequate and clean, two showers clean, didn't use them so not sure of water power etc. The views over the fields are just spectacular, peace and quiet is our favourite kind of place to stay, no fuss, no rules about pitching up between this blue peg or white peg, just freedom and nature all around. Cows, sheep, lambs, horses all add to the lovely stay that we had there. We would definitely recommend here if you want a bit of you time, we'll definitely be back
