About Cowley Manor Experimental

Cowley Manor Experimental puts a strong kitchen and bar at the centre of a stay, with a restaurant, afternoon tea and a well-stocked drinks list that draw praise well beyond the usual hotel fare. It's the kind of place where a leisurely lunch or an evening cocktail feels like part of the point, not an afterthought, and mini bars in the rooms mean the good habits continue upstairs.

The 31 rooms are set across two floors and dressed in the hotel's distinctive playful, design-forward style, with air conditioning, room service and free WiFi as standard, plus family rooms for those travelling with children. Outside, parkland gardens and lakes stretch around the manor, with outdoor seating for making the most of them, and facilities extend to a gym, spa and sauna, a games room, and meeting rooms for work or celebrations, alongside porter and concierge services. The spa doesn't always match the rest of the experience, according to some who've stayed, so it's worth setting expectations there.

Cowley itself, near Cheltenham in Gloucestershire, gives easy reach of the Slad Valley and plenty of walking country, with pubs, restaurants and entertainment nearby for those who venture beyond the grounds. Free on-site parking, valet parking and childcare on request make it a straightforward base for a longer break as much as a short stopover.

Cowley Manor was the perfect place to seriously disconnect and slow the pace down. We went for a long weekend and it’s exactly the kind of spot you go to when you want to actually switch off. The building itself is absolutely stunning and the grounds are pristine, the sort of place that makes you exhale the moment you arrive. The spa was lovely and the pool was quiet and beautifully designed, never crowded, just calm. The food was incredible across the board, top notch steak, a perfect soufflé, and linguine with lobster that was honestly unreal. Even the bread rolls were memorable, which tells you how much care goes into the kitchen. Breakfast was unbelievable too, a great healthy selection to start the day, and the llamas out on the grounds are a really fun touch that the whole family got a kick out of. We stayed in a junior suite overlooking the grounds with a balcony patio and it was so spacious. One thing worth noting is there’s no AC, but we didn’t miss it, the rooms stayed comfortable and it never felt like we needed it. An incredible weekend all around. We’ll definitely be back.

We recently came back to Cowley manor having had a slightly disappointing stay in January. We were welcomed back with a complimentary night alongside the 3 days we had booked. We were lucky enough to be staying in the Cowley Suite, which is probably the best hotel room I've stayed in personally. The room itself, is not done justice by the photos, it's an incredibly spacious room with a spectacular bathroom. The real win here is the balcony, which is effectively a huge private terrace looking out onto the grounds. We were lucky enough to be there for the May Bank holiday week and the weather was incredible, which really makes the space something special. We were here for our 16th year anniversary, and so we were already off to a great start. Service was fantastic with some particular knockout service from Alex on the service team as well as Rowan. We felt incredibly welcomed and had the best stay on a holiday that we have had in a long time. Food and drinks were both great and the team by the pool were also excellent. The Head Gardner was also great and explained to us all about the grounds as we were enquiring about some of the petrified trees that need replacing. All in all a perfect stay and we look forward to being back in August.

We stayed for two nights for our mini-moon and had an amazing time. It was such a nice surprise to be upgraded to a suite, and the staff working at reception and at the bar in particular were very friendly and always keen for a nice chat. The food (we tried breakfast and dinner) was really standout. The spa was wonderful and very clean. The 55 acres of grounds were the largest we have ever seen in such a hotel. We also really enjoyed the nightly turn-down service with fresh macaroons. The staff went above and beyond and we hope to be back.

Okay so I loved my visit apart from one thing. First of all I booked the twilight spa package, the staff at the spa were lovely and the massages were so so good & great pool. Secondly the grounds were so beautiful and the building and all its rooms. Lastly, the dinner, the food was great and service was also good, however my meal is included in my package, which only doesn’t include drinks so I only had a large water to pay for which is fine however, service charge was too high for just a water, so when I asked to remove the service charge, was questioned when it isn’t compulsory to pay in the uk. And staff looked offended about this and the lady I spoke to went to talk to other staff member about this. This made me feel uncomfortable. Overall apart from that I had a great time.
