The Royal Oak

The pub is absolutely superb. The staff are great and food delicious. All in all a great place for a short getaway. On a side note however, if your lucky enough to stay in room 1, its great but make sure you get up earlier than room 2 as they do share a hot water tank. Whilst we were there room 2 obviously to very long showers, leaving me and wife to have blue nose showers. Still we soon woke up. That aside its a great place to stay Also as a side note, julie the housekeeper was wonderful and a mine of information. A credit to your great pub

We recently spent two nights in a feature signature room at The Royal Oak as we were attending a wedding nearby. About 20 years ago we stayed here twice in one of the little cottages and loved it. Time has moved on and now we feel some improvement could be made to bring the accommodation up to date. Our room was quite small but there were some nice features and we think the shower room had been recently updated. Some little improvements would make all the difference - new curtains with heavy lining and new poles/tracks are needed. The current ones are tired and don’t do a great job at keeping the summer light out of the room. A better mattress is needed as the current one is saggy. The TV and kettle need updating too. Friends had left it too late to book a room and ended up in a beautiful Air BnB in the village. We were envious of their modern, up to date accommodation and with such competition in the same village we think the pub must up the game. The service in the pub was generally good with a team of friendly young people although the girl serving breakfast on Saturday morning was a bit po-faced. The delightful young Texan woman was a real asset, incredibly friendly and pleasant. One weird thing is that when we got back from the wedding reception on Saturday night at around 10:40pm, the pub was closed already and we could only have a drink outside. It seemed very early to be closing up on Saturday night. On the Friday evening we’d been inside until after 11pm. Location is perfect in the heart of the village.

Wow! What a pub - couldn’t have been more accommodating. If you’re looking for a gorgeous local countryside pub, this is it! A special mention to Ellie who hosted us this evening. She went above and beyond with her service, and made us feel right at home! Give this girl everything she deserves!!! 5 stars (and the rest!!!)

My experience here is mixed. The pub itself is lovely, with a great location and very nice rooms. However, the meal could have been better for sure. We waited over an hour between starter and main course. The main course was tasty. I had the steak, but my friend had a burger, and he said it wasn't great. Likewise, the dessert didn't blow us away by any means. Overnight stay was nice, but at no point was I made aware that breakfast is only served from 8:00 am, which is not ideal midweek. I thought it would be okay, but at 8:10 am nobody was there, not even prepping for breakfast. So I didn't actually get any breakfast until gone 8:30. It would not be difficult to put out some cold breakfast such as cereals or yoghourts early if needs be.
