Croft Guesthouse suits travellers after a quiet, grown-up base rather than a family holiday stop. Set on Challoner Street in Cockermouth, it works well for couples or solo guests planning to spend their days out walking or exploring the Lake District National Park and returning to somewhere calm in the evening.
Rooms are en-suite and come with drinks making facilities, and breakfast is included to set guests up before a day out. Free WiFi is available throughout, and reception operates around the clock, so arrival times can be flexible. Free on-site parking is a practical plus for those arriving by car and heading straight out to the fells.
Pubs, restaurants and other places to eat are all within easy reach, along with entertainment and fishing nearby, and there's a walking area close by for those wanting to stretch their legs without going far. It's a straightforward, adults-only base for exploring Cockermouth and the surrounding Lake District countryside.

Lovely stay at Croft House, we had rooms on the top floor which we were told were the "budget rooms" - one with a big bed and tiny bathroom you can just about walk around in, and the other with a tiny bedroom but a bigger bathroom. Overall very comfy rooms, although the smaller bedroom was quite exposed when you had the windows open so had to remember to close them before a shower! Fully stocked with tea making facilities and a hairdryer etc. Breakfast was great and they did excellent bacon and scrambled eggs, not the best vegan milk as it curdled in the coffee. Overall a nice stay and would recommend to anyone staying in the area although didn't feel like it was geared towards anyone on walking holidays with no place for wet/muddy boots.

I stayed with my wife and sister, visiting Cockermouth for my brothers daughters wedding. Originally for two nights but decided to stay another night. What a gem! location brilliant. Within walking distance to shops, supermarket, restaurants, pubs and your usually high street retailers. Rooms of superb quality, decor and design ( a credit to the owners). My wife even taking pictures to replicate elements of the furnishing and design back home. Bathroom again, quality fixtures and fittings, with lovely soaps and bubble bath. Parking is available. The breakfast is one of the best i have experienced and i have have stopped in hundreds of hotels across the UK as part of my job. Bacon, sausage and eggs cooked exactly to your liking. Nothing is too much to ask. There is also continental breakfast option available if that's what you prefer. Both owners make a fantastic team and will use again. Very highly recommended.

This is hands down the best Guest House we have ever stayed in! Gorgeous rooms fully equipped with everything you need. The breakfasts were divine. Plenty of choice including daily specials. All cooked well and lovely and fresh. I had pancakes with lemon which were delicious. Very close to town, so easy to walk in and have a browse! Very welcoming hosts! Superb!Thank you 😃

My husband and I have just spent 3 wonderful nights here and loved it. Small but perfectly formed room, fabulous food at breakfast and great hosts. We would highly recommend staying here and will definitely revisit the next time we are in The Lake District.
