About Hoarthorns Hideaway

Tucked into a quiet hamlet on the edge of the Wye Valley National Landscape, Hoarthorns Hideaway offers a lovingly converted double railway carriage on a small working sheep farm. The open-plan interior strikes a nice balance between cosiness and function – there's a Smart TV for downtime, a full self-catering kitchen, and an ensuite shower room, while outside you'll find a private paddock with picnic bench, electric barbecue and bike storage. Expect to share the fields with sheep, ducks, chickens, a couple of border collies and neighbouring cattle grazing beyond the hedge.

Location is a real strength here: Coleford's shops are five minutes by car, the Forest of Dean cycle centre is just as close, and Symonds Yat is twenty minutes away. Whether you're after mountain biking, canoeing on the Wye, rock climbing or gentle wildlife walks (keep an eye out for wild boar and deer), you're genuinely well placed. It's adults-only and doesn't take pets, so expect real peace and quiet.

An absolutely gorgeous place for a long weekend! The carriages are so cosy and have everything you could need. The location is perfect for lots of beautiful walks and visits to amazing sights, but also not too far to pop to the shops!

What an absolute gem. The Hoarthorns hideaway is so beautifully equipped, so beautifully finished, an absolute delight. The converted railway carriages are the perfect home from home. Carol, the host is so helpful and welcoming. Everything is just so charming.

What a wonderful place to stay! Right in the heart of the Forest of Dean, Hoarthorns Hideaway is the perfect retreat for a couple of adventurous single. There are so many wonderful attractions nearby. We visited Clearwell Caves, the Sculpture Trail and went for lunch in Monmouth on our way home. The sunset was gorgeous and there were so many beautiful birds in the hedgerow to watch from the sofa. The carriages were spotless, the bed was so comfy and we had everything we could possibly need! Thank you Carol and Will 😊

What a perfect place to stay. Impeccably clean throughout with so many homely touches. The shepherd’s hut is located in a very peaceful location which is very private with beautiful views. - The kitchen had everything you could possibly need to cook meals, with everything being spotlessly clean. - A lovely sitting area with a very comfortable sofa. - Two smart TVs. (These were not used, but still a great luxury for those who like to watch their favourite TV shows, or if you’re having a winter break and want to cosy up watching a film.) - Some board games and books to have a peruse through during your stay. - Spotlessly clean bathroom with a storage cupboard for toiletries. The shower also has good water pressure and the hot water is almost instant! - Great amounts of storage throughout with an ottoman bed for storing cases and bags out of the way. - Very comfortable bed with thoughtful side tables, plug sockets and reading lamps (Carol and Will really have thought of everything). - Lots of windows to let fresh air blow through which really made it feel more pleasant and airy. - Great character as the hut is made of converted railway carriages with lots of original features. There’s even a book showing the work Carol and Will did renovating/transforming them. - The picnic table outside is a great addition for sitting out with a BBQ or to have your breakfast and morning coffee. - It was great to meet the owners and chat about the great work they’ve achieved. Could have easily sat for a while with a cup of tea and chatted! Likewise, they are very respectful of privacy and will leave you undisturbed if you’re wanting that quiet getaway. Carol and Will have thought of everything and all the attention to detail really make this a memorable and unbeatable experience. There’s not many places within the first hour or two of checking in that you already know you want to book and stay again - but this certainly is one!
