Very busy, warm, friendly pub with a classic pub food menu and lots of lovely sounding local beers on tap. The staff (one serving and one cooking) managed very well considering how busy it got. Had a lovely meal and was impressed by the decor, especially the bathroom!

We didn’t stay here but staying locally nearby. On our first night here we had booked a table in the bar (dog friendly). Bar food was really good with a good selection of usual pub fayre. I tried a local beer which wasn’t great for me but a second different pint (from the Coniston Brewery) made up for it. A few days later we turned up here after walking Scafell Pike. We had arrived after they had finished lunch. On enquiring the staff member was really helpful and offered to make sandwiches or heat us a pie from the attached Deli. Great service! They do a good selection of ales on tap too.

We stayed here for the weekend when my wife did the Great North Swim. We weren’t able to arrive til 1am but they made sure we would still be able to get into our room even at that time. Dog friendly which was good for us. The bed was really comfortable and the rooms were clean and had everything we needed including a full kitchen. We had a wood fire heated hot tub too. Will definitely be back next year.

A busy evening but only inside diner's to cope with. Top price charged for two local traditional ales which were lovely but only 7/8 of a pint. Intended or not it kind of makes you feel farmed rather than served. Our two portions of fish and chips cam out very quick. Huge looking fish which was all batter, small and dry inside. To cap it all they put a next booking start time on our table while we were eating. Staff came and asked if we would like a desert but declined due to poor quality of the mains. Even though we still had plenty of our expensive drinks left, another member of staff asked us to move because the table was booked pointing out the time of the next booking had passed. The time was way back while we were still eating. Talk about sharp practice?
