Pattacott Farm

This was the shortest stay we’ve ever had, lasting approximately 5 minutes, 4 of which were spent driving up and back down the long bumpy track to this place. We booked the shepherds hut, discussed our needs with the very friendly Sue and were super excited to stay on a working farm. What we arrived to, after a 25 minute longer drive than expected due to not being told the full address when booking, was a dilapidated tiny little shed which was so small you couldn’t even close the toilet door behind you when using the toilet (not that we were there long enough for that). We had told Sue we were travelling with two dogs, she said that was fine but might be a little cosy. The hut was so tiny the dogs wouldn’t have even been able to sleep on the floor if we pulled the sofa bed out, let alone have their own beds put down. As soon as we got out of the car we were greeted by the huge dog mess in the huts little outside area, so that was an unpleasant start, but it only got worse when we started to look around. The whole place looks a bit like steptoe and sons yard but there is no comedy value to this yard let me assure you of that. There was a hot tub advertised with the hut, great, so long as you don’t mind using a hot tub in the middle of a farms yard in view of anyone who’s there. If privacy bothers you though, don’t worry because there’s a rusty old bit of metal stuck up round the tub as a makeshift fence, just be careful not to cut yourself as it looks very sharp. We drove off the farm and messaged Sue to say we couldn’t stay and ask for a refund at which point the friendly Sue was suddenly not so friendly any more. She was upset we hadn’t greeted her….a very random thing to say as we hadn’t seen her during our brief stop and weren’t expecting to as she’d said she was out for Mother’s Day. Then she said how much we’d upset her because her and her husband had spent hours getting ready for our stay. Again we asked for a refund and she said we’d have to come back and speak to her husband… again, a weird thing to say… So we gave up and are now going through the bank for the refund instead. Do not stay here! I wish we’d seen reviews before coming, but when the host won’t tell you where you’re actually going that makes it difficult to see reviews. A huge red flag but we know now to trust a bit less.

Like us, you probably won’t get to read this until it’s too late as the “hosts” hide the location until after you’ve paid. The lambs they advertise they’re actually banned from keeping by a court order in 2023 (6 year ban) due to emaciated sheep, geese in poor condition and other stock. The accommodation is set in a scrap yard, filthy, a genuine dog turd outside our door on arrival. Very misleading photography. You can’t sit on the toilet with the door closed so, unless your parter likes to watch you go toilet this is a real issue. There are clapped out caravans littering the site, rusty old cars everywhere and all of the advertised facilities are in a serious state of disrepair. Book literally anywhere else. The owners should be ashamed of themselves. This is clearly a scam and/or fraud. Search Kevin Hutchings on google

Spotted a last minute booking of one of the lovely bell tents. Beautiful location with amazing views (when the weather is clear) We had a picnic bench, fire pit and bbq just outside, a kitchen (gas hob) with all the equipment cutlery etc we’d possibly need. The toilet and shower blocks were lovely and clean. Didn’t get to meet the owners as they were away but definitely recommend this site for a quiet getaway. Thank you

Great little campsite almost off grid with basic but clean facilities. 2x toilets and 4 showers in main block and 2 compost toilets in field. Friendly owners too. Cows in field were great to watch in front of the tent. Would love to come back again sometime.
