About Esme's Escape
A nostalgic glamping retreat in the Somerset village of Haselbury Plucknett, Esme's Escape takes its name from a 1940s love story. Esme arrived here as a 19-year-old land girl in 1943, fell for local boy Fred, and they built their family home on this very spot. The current owners have preserved that spirit in a beautifully styled hut filled with period charm yet kitted out with modern luxuries: a comfy bed, ensuite shower, and kitchen corner with coffee maker and induction hob.
Outside, your private garden holds a wood-fired hot tub, pizza oven and chiminea for stargazing—especially magical here, as the village has no street lighting. Thoughtful touches abound: fluffy towels, fresh flowers, a welcome cake, marshmallows for toasting, and locally sourced breakfast ingredients. The Michelin-listed local pub is just a five-minute walk, and with only a handful of pitches, peace is guaranteed. It's an adults-only escape, around ten minutes from Crewkerne, where attention to detail meets genuine warmth.

What visitors say
The most perfect romantic getaway. My partner and I stayed at the wonderful Esme's Escape for New Year's Eve and honestly we couldn't ask for anything more! Karen and Simon really have thought of everything. From the locally sourced breakfast, how to videos, local recommendations, board games, marshmallows to toast on the fire, little cakes left out for us... And dog treats for our four legged friend! It was amazing. The hot tub was a particular highlight and was fab during the winter! The location is great, you're tucked away with a great pub (with fantastic food) just down the road. Lots to do locally - we did a big walk round the donkey sanctuary just 10 mins away and went to West Bay coastline just half hour down the road. It was like stepping back in time to a slower pace of life. Karen and Simon - thank you for making our end of 2025 so magical. Highly recommend and we will definitely be back!

We made our 6th visit to Esme’s Escape in April to celebrate our anniversary and my husband’s 60th Birthday. Before booking I looked at several other shepherds hut accommodation but found they were more expensive, looked less comfortable and not in such quiet calm settings. Added to the fantastic breakfast offering (which always lasts us two days) and the superb White Horse Pub close by and so many beautiful walks/paths in the area why would you go anywhere else.

We had the most magical stay at Esme’s Escape! The shepherd’s hut was absolutely perfect – it had everything we needed and so many thoughtful little touches that made it feel really special. We were greeted with a delicious cake, and the coffee machine was stocked with plenty of pods, plus there were hot chocolate-making ingredients and marshmallows – such a treat! The breakfast pack was incredible, full of delicious local goodies that we really enjoyed. The hot tub was the cherry on top – nothing better than relaxing under the stars after a day out. Our hosts were fantastic – always on hand if we needed anything, but we also felt like we had total privacy. It was the perfect balance. Their recommendation of The White Horse pub for dinner was spot on – the food was absolutely delicious. We can’t wait to come back – it was the perfect escape!

This place is an absolute gem! I am SO glad we discovered this gorgeous shepherds hut and we absolutely cannot wait to come back. Finding out about Esme and the reason behind Esme’s escape made it so special. The hosts were so attentive and nothing was ever too much trouble. The hot tub is delightful and watching the sunset with a glass of wine as we cooked our pizzas in the wood fired oven was the most spectacular way to celebrate my birthday. The bed was incredibly comfortable and we had everything we needed for our stay. And to top it all off, we had the most yummy home made cake! I cannot recommend this place enough. The attention to detail is so lovely and a massive thank you for having us. We thoroughly look forward to returning 💗
