Photo: Brook House Inn

Brook Hollow is a country inn with character, combining accommodation with a working pub and restaurant. The building sits in Holmrook, within reach of the Lake District's fell and forest walks. The whole place is yours as a self-catering rental: three bedrooms sleeping six, two bathrooms, and the freedom to cook or eat out downstairs without other guests in the way.

The ground floor holds a kitchen well set up for self-catering—induction hob, double oven, dishwasher, slow cooker—plus a utility room with washing machine and dryer. The lounge has a smart TV and reclining sofa. Upstairs, the master has a super king bed and balcony; the other two bedrooms are similarly appointed. Both bathrooms include shower and heated towel rail. Electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. You have garden space outside and parking on site; one dog is welcome. No smoking throughout.

The pub and restaurant operate separately from your rental, so you can eat there when you choose or prepare meals at home. The combination suits groups or families who want their own space but appreciate having food and drink close by. Check-in is after 16:00, checkout before 10:00.

Stayed for three nights, staff were so helpful and friendly, the packed lunch option for hiking was so brilliant and we thoroughly enjoyed our sandwiches whilst walking! Breakfast was lovely and we were well looked after, perfect central location for boot and lots of little or big walks and not too far from wastwater for paddle boarding

The pear and blue cheese starter was really nice. The restaurant is distinctively good. We only had a meal at the hotel so we can't comment on the rooms but would guess that they are good.

Very lovely stay here, comfortable room, great breakfast and evening meals. Reasonable range of beers and good atmosphere in the pub. However, what really makes this place is the staff. They are so welcoming and friendly, attentive and hard working. They made us feel like we were the locals! Easy access to magnificent walking too.

Diners like this pub's delicious food, including hearty steak pie and perfectly cooked seabass, along with a great selection of real ales and whiskies. They also highlight the friendly, welcoming, and attentive staff, who create a family-friendly atmosphere. Guests mention the reasonable prices and the comfortable, clean rooms with hot showers and mountain views.
