Grike Cottage

Grike Cottage sleeps four in two double bedrooms, a short walk from Ennerdale Water in the quieter reaches of Cumberland. The cottage is yours alone, with an enclosed garden that includes an unusual feature: a stone labyrinth modelled on Chartres Cathedral. Views stretch across the garden to the surrounding fells, including Grike itself. The setting suits walkers and those after genuine peace; Ennerdale remains largely undeveloped, without the roads or commercial facilities that border other Lake District lakes.

Downstairs holds the living and dining room, kitchen, and a separate toilet. Upstairs are the two bedrooms and bathroom with bath and shower cubicle. The kitchen is equipped for cooking rather than heating ready meals—electric hob and oven, dishwasher, microwave, air fryer. Wi-Fi is provided, as are bed linen and towels; heating and electricity are included in the rate. Two cars can park on site. The property is non-smoking, and not suitable for children under eight.

From here, woodland trails run alongside the water, and fell walks lead to Crag Fell and High Stile for those with more energy. The nearest town is some distance away; this is genuinely remote, which is entirely the point.
