Swinside Cottage
Cumberland
Swinside Cottage sits above Ennerdale Water in the western Lake District, surrounded by countryside that rewards walking. The property itself occupies a hillside position where fell trails start from nearby, and the valley views stretch across to woodland and open moorland. A working landscape rather than manicured scenery—the kind of place where you step outside and within minutes are on a proper route up the fells or along quieter paths through the valleys.
The cottage is one bedroom, sleeping two, arranged over two floors. Downstairs holds a living and dining room with a wood burner, and a kitchen where you can cook properly; upstairs is a galleried bedroom with a double bed, reached by open-tread stairs. A shower room is on the ground floor. The essentials—heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi—are all included. There's parking for one car on site, and a shared garden to the rear. Dogs are welcome and stay free; the property also has access to a 2-acre paddock with woodland, where they can run. No smoking inside.
This is a cottage for walkers and those wanting to unwind rather than a base for entertainment. The building itself has character—older, with uneven walls—rather than the uniformity of a modern conversion. The Lake District's high fells are within reach for a day, and Ennerdale Bridge sits close by for supplies and a pub. Children and babies are not accommodated.
