Scafell Cottage

Cumberland

Scafell Cottage is a Grade II listed building on Bridge End Farm, a historic complex in Eskdale that dates back over four centuries. The cottage sits among the dramatic fells of the Lake District, with Scafell Pike and Great Gable visible across the valley. Getting there means driving over high moorland and down leafy lanes past stone bridges and Herdwick sheep – the landscape itself is part of the arrival. A pub lies within a mile, and the 2-acre grounds shared with other cottages on the site include a paddock and sitting areas.

The layout spreads across two floors. Downstairs is a large open-plan living space with a kitchen at one end – electric oven and gas hob for proper cooking – and a comfortable sitting area at the other, with patio doors opening onto a private patio where you can eat outside or use the barbecue. There's also a ground-floor bedroom with an ensuite. Upstairs are three more bedrooms: one with a king bed, and two with single beds (one room has three, the other two). The main bathroom has a roll-top bath with a shower over it. Three bathrooms in total means no queuing in the mornings. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included, and there's parking for three cars on site.

The cottage sleeps nine and is yours alone for the duration. One dog is welcome at no extra charge. No smoking indoors, please. A utility room with a washing machine and tumble dryer is available, shared with the other properties on the farm. Note that the grounds contain a fenced river.
