The Garrison - Hannah’s Shepherds Hut
Cumberland
View on Google MapsBowness-on-Solway sits on the Solway Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty where Hadrian's Wall reaches the sea. The Garrison occupies the grounds of a former Roman fort, and during construction, excavations uncovered remains now displayed in an on-site visitors' centre with a scale model of how the fort once stood. The location puts you within half an hour of the Lake District, historic Carlisle, and southern Scotland, while cycle route 72 runs through the village, making it a natural stop for coast-to-coast walkers and cyclists.
Hannah's Shepherds Hut is a detached, single-storey glamping pod with one bedroom and a shower room. The open-plan living space includes a wood-burning stove, Freeview TV, and a kitchen equipped with electric oven and hob. Upstairs is a bunk bed—double below, single above—sleeping three altogether. Electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included; you'll have private parking for one car and access to the shared grounds. The complex also has an on-site gym and bistro. No smoking is permitted inside. Check-in is after 15:00 and checkout before 10:00.
This works well for families after an unusual break, couples wanting to try glamping, or anyone using it as a base for walking or cycling in the borderlands. One well-behaved pet is welcome.
