The Garrison - Jamie’s Shepherds Hut
Cumberland
View on Google MapsThis shepherds' hut stands on what was once Fort Maia, a Roman fort along Hadrian's Wall. The site's history is on display in a small visitors' centre with a scale model of how the fort appeared nearly two thousand years ago. The hut itself is a modern take on traditional glamping, with everything on ground level and accessed by five steps from the entrance.
Inside is an open-plan living space with a freeview television and electric fire, a kitchen area with an electric oven and hob, and a bedroom with a double bunk bed (double on the bottom, single above). There's a shower room with a cubicle shower and toilet. Electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are included. A single parking space is yours on site.
The complex has a shared gym and on-site bistro. Bowness-on-Solway itself sits within an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the Solway Coast. Hadrian's Wall is nearby; Carlisle, the Lake District and southern Scotland are all within thirty minutes' drive. Cycle route 72 passes through the village. The Kings Arms Inn is close by. No smoking is permitted in the hut.
