The Garrison - Tiberius Claudius Augustus Germanicus Suite

Cumberland

The Garrison occupies ground once home to Fort Maia, a Roman installation along Hadrian's Wall. This one-bedroom apartment forms part of a small complex where excavations have unearthed remains from that era; a visitors' centre on-site holds a scale model of the original fort and sells Roman artefacts. You have the whole place to yourself—a first-floor open-plan space with a living area, kitchen, separate bedroom and shower room.

The kitchen comes fully equipped for self-catering: electric oven and hob, microwave, dishwasher, fridge-freezer and washing machine. The bedroom has a double bed (4ft 6in), and heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and wifi are all included. There is parking for one car on site, and you can access the shared gym if you wish. Smoking is not permitted.

Bowness-on-Solway sits in the Solway Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, making it a base for walkers and cyclists. Hadrian's Wall itself lies nearby; the Lake District and Carlisle are both within a 30-minute drive. The village is on a major cycle route and serves as a popular stopover for those doing the coast-to-coast walk.
