Woodland Retreats - Bats About
Cumberland
Couples seeking genuine seclusion will find Woodland Retreats - Bats About tucked into private Cumberland woodland, where the quiet is real enough to notice. This handcrafted shepherd's hut sits on a single open-plan level, with a living space built around a woodburner, a compact kitchen area, one double bedroom and a walk-in shower. There's no television; the focus is on stillness and the surrounding trees. A wood-fired hot tub accommodates two, and parking for one car is on site.
The hut has been built with recycled, upcycled and reclaimed materials sourced locally, and it runs on solar power and collected rainwater. The composting toilet works invisibly. Electricity, bed linen and towels are included; initial wood for the burner is provided too. You can cook on the woodburner itself using the cast iron provided, or use the gas hob. The access track is rough, and the property does not permit smoking.
Broughton-in-Furness is a 10-minute drive away for supplies and a pub meal. Green Road railway station is a half-hour walk if you prefer to leave the car behind. South Lakes Wild Animal Park, the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway and the Lakeland Motor Museum are all within reach for days out.
