Compass Rose

Our hosts were excellent, with their attention to detail and friendly warmth' The location was fabulous. Our room was well equipped. The bed was very comfortable and the balcony afforded a spectacular view over the quaint and fascinating little town. Breakfasts were also excellent in both content and the balcony views that accompanied them. Parking in Dartmouth is best described as 'Challenging"! So we decided to leave the car expertly tucked away by our host, at the property for the duration of our stay. We then enjoyed the fact, that all of the calories we acquired from the lovely meals enjoyed at 'Compass Rose', 'Rockfish', Seahorse and The Embankment Bistro, were being used to climb the hill we dubbed " The Yellow Brick Road" ,but which was actually called 'The Mount Flagon Steps'. We hope to return someday and thank you again for making our stay so comfortable, relaxing and memorable.

We spent 3 nights in Compass Rose and it was absolutely stunning. Anne and Bernard were fantastic hosts and the accommodation equally as impressive. The views from the property of both Dartmouth town centre and the river Dart were breathtaking. It certainly wouldn't deter us from returning, but car parking is extremely tight and takes a little effort, although Bernard will park your car for you, should you wish (as previously noted, fantastic hosts!).

I have travelled a lot, and stayed in some spectacular places around the world, some have had great views, some have great rooms, this place is as good as the best, as it's great in many respects. The rooms are well decorated, in a style that I like, with artworks and decorative items that really create a style. The view, from its high location, over Dartmouth across the river to Kingsweir is spectacular. The breakfast, what a fabulous selection, and is cooked and presented up to restaurant standards. The hosts are exceptional, friendly, helpfull, and just nice to be with. I have to mention what we found as a negative, and that is it's location, high above the town give you a great view, but means you have 100 steps to get down to the town, and the same to come back, however, the number 90 bus will drop you off at the end of the road, with just a genital slope down. This is not the cheapest place, but it's very well worth it, and I would recommend it to anyone (unless the steps would be a problem)
