About Harpurs of Melbourne

Golf courses, fishing spots and cycling routes lie within reach of Harpurs of Melbourne, along with local pubs and restaurants, making Derby an easy base for exploring the surrounding area on foot or by car. The hotel itself sits on Derby Road, with free on-site parking a welcome bonus for anyone arriving with a car full of bags or bikes.

Inside, there are just four rooms, each with an en-suite bathroom, drinks available to bring up, and free WiFi throughout. It's a small, personal setup rather than a big chain hotel, with luggage storage on hand and the option to host a wedding on site. Pets are welcome too, so four-legged travellers don't need to be left behind.

Food is the heart of the place: the restaurant and bar turn out hearty meals, well-regarded breakfasts and a popular Sunday roast, with gluten-free options catered for and kids' meals available. Staff are generally friendly and attentive, though a handful of visits have found the service less helpful than expected. Overall, it's a straightforward, comfortable stop with good food and a decent range of outdoor activities close by.

We stopped by for lunch on a sunny Saturday so it was busy but we were served quickly. The staff were lovely, friendly and helpful. We ate in the bar and we both had the beef burger. It was soooooo nice. Good portion size and very juicy, just as the lady at the bar had said. We would gladly go back again for food or drinks if we're in the area.

We popped in today for a Sunday roast to celebrate our wedding anniversary. We sat in the bar section of the pub. Starters arrived quickly and were excellent so we had high hopes for main courses. However, it took approximately an hour for our main courses to arrive. The staff did realise this without being prompted and offered drinks to be removed from our bill. Eventually our main courses of a two roast dinners did arrive. The vegetables were raw and incredibly undercooked. A real shame as the atmosphere and location are lovely.

We stayed overnight at the Boot to break up our journey. Excellent. The evening dinner was superb. Becky and I are foodies and meal we had was fantastic. Breakfast was equally brilliant. The staff terrific. Our room was good, clean, well presented. Highly recommend

Nice functional room, great staff. Without doubt, one or the best breakfasts I've ever had. Evening meals are also extremely good, recommend both the hotel and the restaurant. Will be going back again soon!
