About The Lawns Hotel
A cooked breakfast with plenty of choice, alongside a menu of local and international dishes, is one of the main draws at The Lawns Hotel on Derby's High Street. There's a restaurant and bar on site, with packed lunches and kids' meals available too, plus outdoor seating and a garden and picnic area for warmer days.
Rooms are en-suite and come with drinks provided, and family rooms can be arranged for those travelling with children. Some rooms are on the compact side, but they're kept clean and comfortable, and staff are consistently described as friendly and helpful. Free WiFi runs throughout, and 24 hour reception means arrival times are flexible. Meeting rooms are also available for those combining a stay with work.
The hotel sits within easy reach of Derby Cathedral and the River Derwent, with pubs, restaurants and entertainment nearby, and a golf course not far off either. Pets are welcome, and free on-site parking is provided, making The Lawns a practical base for exploring the city centre.
What guests say
Nice little hotel, perfect location for our needs, the carpark is small and it can be tight getting into a space. The room was small but clean and it had everything we needed. All the staff were friendly and the continental breakfast was very nice. We would definitely stay here again.

I stayed in room 11 at the back of the hotel, the smell of the carpet was reminiscent of a PE hall floor and the floorboards creak beyond believe. The shower changed temperature several times while being used without touching the controls, likely because our people in the building were using the hot water indicating the boiler isn't fit for purpose. Although I did accidently change them a couple of times because the tap is at hip height which, considering I travel for sorry often, is a first. To be fair the beer was well kept but no one should be rewarded for doing things that are simple and they should be doing anyway, while drinking said beer from the worn out garden furniture it was obvious the roof is in a state of disrepair. Tiles misaligned and fascia needing repainting. I've stayed here twice (hopefully never again) at the front of the hotel on my first visit where patiently waiting for the locals to leave is the best way to get some peace and quiet, which surprisingly is far better than the back of the building where the compressor (likely for the walk in fridge/freezer) keeps you up all night. I would have closed the windows but which is better; stifling in a room that smells of feet, or a slightly fresher room which an obnoxious fan going all night? This is a desperate homemade attempt of a hotel that never should have happened. Save yourself the trouble and get a taxi home, wherever you live.

Pub is popular with locals so you might have to wait until the after work crowd dissipates before finding a parking space. Rooms are small, no desk for working. Mattresses too firm for my liking. Thin walls so you are likely to be woken up by your next door neighbour. Good food, 5 cask ales on tap. Staff were amazing: friendly and very attentive. Pub has sky sports. Continental breakfast is included. Hot breakfast options run from £5 - £10.
