Bertie's Retreat is a shepherd's hut sleeping two, set in the Hope Valley near Brewer's Cottage. The single open-plan interior combines living, dining and kitchen areas, with a wood-burning stove, smart TV and sofa. A double bed and shower room complete the layout. Everything you need is covered—heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and WiFi included—so you can arrive and settle in without fuss.

The real draw is the private garden, which comes with outdoor furniture and access to a wood-fired hot tub. The tub arrives empty and takes around 20 minutes to fill and up to three hours to heat depending on the season. There is parking for one car on site. The cabin suits couples wanting their own space; no smoking is permitted inside.

From here you can walk to the village or explore the surrounding trails. The Peak District is close enough for day trips to Bakewell, Buxton, Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House, as well as the show caves and mines around Castleton.

The most serene place I've visited. Me and my partner were blown away with how warm, comforting and cosy the hut was, the hot tub was lush. At one point was nearly too hot. But the set up cleanliness and how easy it was made the stay phenomenal would love to stay again in the magical place if we are upbthis way again

Absolutely wonderful stay in Bertie's Retreat. Penny was a great host, everything is done through a key out of the lock and Penny emails all the details over to you so you can access it. The cabin is really nice outside and in, it was so cosy and such a treat to get away for a bit from our house. There is a folder which has all the information you need in. We didn't use the fire place but all the details were in there if you wanted to use it. We took a couple of Christmas DVDs and watched them as there is a built in dvd player on to the TV. Everything was so neat and clean. It has just everything you want there! Would highly recommend. We travelled here via taxi from Bakewell and then the following day had a 45 minute walk to Eyam which was a really lovely walk. The views are just stunning and we would definitely stay here again. Pets are allowed and the cabin next to us had a dog, we don't have any pets and were a bit worried about sleeping when there is a dog in the next cabin but we couldn't hear them at all, you are in your own little world in this cabin 🙂
