About Moorhead Country Holidays
Tucked into 12 acres of rolling North Devon countryside near Woolsery village, Moorhead Country Holidays is an adults-only retreat for couples seeking peace and spectacular scenery. The site shares grounds with a family-friendly complex but maintains its own tranquil character, with sweeping views over unspoilt farmland, memorable sunrises and sunsets, and exceptionally dark skies for stargazing. Clovelly's fishing harbour is just 10 minutes by car, while Westward Ho!'s long sandy beach lies 20 minutes away.
Facilities include an on-site bar-restaurant open six evenings a week in summer (closed Sundays), plus paid access to a gym, indoor pool, hot tub and fishing lake for keen anglers. The site itself is intentionally simple—non-electric grass pitches only—so you're here for the setting rather than modern conveniences. When the restaurant's closed, Woolsery village has a grocery store, chippy and pub within easy reach, and the North Devon coast's surf beaches, coastal paths and cycling routes are all on the doorstep.

What visitors say
We stayed at Moorhead Country Holidays and loved it. The location is really peaceful, surrounded by beautiful countryside, but still easy to get to the North Devon coast and local villages. The accommodation was clean, comfy, and had everything we needed. The beds were great, the kitchen was well equipped, and the place just felt really welcoming. The owners are a lovely family who are friendly and helpful, but also give you plenty of privacy. You can tell they really care about making sure guests have a good stay. We’d definitely come back — a perfect spot for relaxing, countryside walks, or exploring the area. Highly recommend Moorhead Country Holidays!

We booked this property primarily for the hot tub and confirmed its availability before arrival. This was an impromptu, last-minute booking due to a boiler breakdown at home. Travelling with a toddler, we were looking for a short recreational stay. However, important restrictions including that children were not allowed to use the hot tub were not mentioned in the listing and were not communicated when I enquired about the hot tub and were only included in a lengthy PDF sent after paying a non-refundable deposit. For a short stay, critical information like this should be clearly highlighted upfront rather than buried in post-booking documentation. We used the hot tub briefly and responsibly, yet were later accused of leaving it in an unacceptable condition, with suggestions of staining and contamination. We did not observe any issue when we left, and no clear evidence was provided linking us to the alleged problem. There were also other guests using the facilities before us, as noted on the pool room sign-in, and we were the last to use it that evening. The following morning, the host stated that it had already been cleaned after our use, so we did not use it again. It is therefore unclear how it could have been closed for other users the next day due to us. Despite this, after we escalated the matter, a £55 charge was requested claiming the hot tub had to be closed for a full day, which contradicts the earlier explanation. There were also several issues during our stay. Some kitchen utensils had visible coffee stains on arrival. WiFi did not work throughout our stay. No basic essentials such as sugar or salt were provided. Despite this, we washed and dried all utensils, wiped the microwave, collected rubbish, and left the property in a clean and reasonable condition at checkout. Despite these concerns, we initially left a positive review in goodwill. The host subsequently left a negative review with unsubstantiated claims. Overall, the experience felt unnecessarily stressful and confrontational rather than relaxing. For the price and very short stay, we expected clearer communication and a more reasonable approach. We have had excellent experiences elsewhere, but this stay was disappointing, and we would not return or recommend. Photos of how we left the property at checkout attached.

Situated deep in the Devon countryside, run by the most friendly family, Moorhead is great place to stay. We only had a two day break but left fully refreshed. Our apartment was first class, the food (mostly homemade) was superb & all other facilities spot on. Thank you for making us so welcome - we will be back.
