About Smedmore Caravan Site
Tucked into the Purbeck Hills near Kimmeridge, Smedmore is a privately owned site affiliated with the Caravan and Motorhome Club, occupying a stunning position along the unspoilt Jurassic Coast. The setting is the real draw here – dramatic coastal scenery on your doorstep with direct access to some of Dorset's finest cliff-top walks and fossil-rich beaches. Facilities are deliberately simple: electric hook-ups and drinking water are provided, along with W.C. disposal points, but there are no on-site showers or toilets, so you'll need to be self-contained.
It's a peaceful, back-to-basics spot that works beautifully for those who value location over mod cons. Dogs are welcome, and families appreciate the safe, traffic-free feel. If you want a campsite that lets the landscape do the talking – and don't mind bringing your own facilities – Smedmore delivers.

What visitors say
Recently stayed here for 5 days. Absolutely fantastic site. Great views towards the bay. Lovely walks from the site, right next to the coastal path. Glyn the site manager was so helpful, he is a mine of information. Loved this place, will definitely be back. Take care not to approach via steeple, it's narrow; instead turn right at Corfe Castle and you'll be fine.

We stayed here for the first time last week and had a wonderful time. Booking online was easy and very organised. The site manager contacted us in advance to discuss the pitch and access due to excess rainfall making the grass soft. As a result we had no trouble pitching. Excellent directions made getting to the site easy although you do need to be prepared to negotiate some narrow lanes and steep hills. The site manager is available at set times morning and evening and was extremely friendly and helpful. On site, blocks are provided as some of the pitches are very sloping but there's plenty of space to manoeuvre. The taps and chemical toilet disposal point are spotless. There are several permissive paths from the site allowing lovely walks onto the coast path, down to Kimmeridge bay or up onto the hill behind.

Great low-key campsite. £23 with electric is a good price. We didn't need to level much as on the hard standing and in a motorhome. It had all the facilities we needed. We used it as a walking base for the coastal path so two were very helpful to us , Glyn the site manager who made the place so welcoming and had a wealth of knowledge and Angie the local taxi who dropped us or picked us up so we didn't have to do circular walks. Loved it there ...

Our go to place in the caravan. Great location, lots of wildlife noises, no showers or toilets and no need for these either but means you need on board facilities. Great views on a clear day as a bonus. Nice and tranquil and great for just relaxing. Site manager is spot on and grounds are superbly kept. Only open May to October and a slight pain to get to but once here, we don't want to leave. Some great walks around the area or travel further to Lulworth, Corfe Castle, Wareham, Swanage or Dorchester. When the weather is poor it is a bit cut off and sometimes visibility is minimal but still seems tranquil. Most pitches are sloping so don't visit if you're not prepared to level up on these. Hardstanding for camper vans etc. available. Great online booking and great communication. We like it 😁 The site manager / warden is superb. He keeps the site meticulously clean and the grass is always kept 'manicured'. The notice board is always full of interesting and useful information. Notices tell the customers which pitch they are on as they come through the entry gate. The water is super quality as spring fed. Glyn is always there to help if needed and attends the office twice per day. The chap always seems jolly too which is very welcoming. Other sites could learn a lot from this one.
