About The Gaggle of Geese

Tucked into the Dorset AONB near Buckland Newton, this friendly country pub campsite spreads across five peaceful acres of fields and orchard, with non-electric grass pitches for tents and motorhomes. The real draw is the sprawling outdoor space: a soft-play double-decker bus, pygmy goats, ping pong, miniature golf and plenty of room for kids to roam while grown-ups enjoy locally brewed beers and ciders. Inside, expect comfy corners, a warm welcome for dogs and children alike, plus homemade pub classics and excellent Sunday roasts that reviewers consistently praise.

It's brilliantly placed for Dorset adventures—20 minutes from Dorchester, half an hour from the coast, and within easy reach of fossil hunting, animal parks and watersports. Summer evenings often fire up the barbecue shack and wood-fired pizza oven, or you're welcome to bring your own setup for campfires under the stars. A skittle alley, quiz nights and live music afternoons add to the relaxed, family-friendly vibe.

What visitors say

James Buckingham

Left the Gaggle Of Geese after a lovely weekend away celebrating our wedding anniversary. What an absolutely lovely experience it was. We stayed in the Birdie Shepard Hut and it was really nice and exactly what we wanted. The inside log burner was a fantastic unexpected addition which came in really handy. And we really appreciated the welcome pack which again was unexpected. Together we ate and drank in the pub and found all the staff excellent and extremely friendly as well as the locals and the resident dog who happily greeted us on both mornings. The grounds were big and fun with plenty to do for couples and families. Overall it was a very blissful experience that we both loved and we would happily return in the future with our children.

Visited Saturday 11th April. Incredibly beautiful and charming set-up. Lots of outdoor space and fun for the kids with the play bus. Between that and the goats it made our visit feel very value for money. Indoor has lots of character. Staff were lovely. Very accommodating and friendly especially as there was such a huge group of us (almost 30). My food (chicken stack burger) was just ok. Quite dry and the inlcuded portion of chips was the smallest I'd ever seen, so be sure to upgrade to a bowl! Of course there was a range of food at our table and I know most people enjoyed what they had. Some of the other meals looked amazing. Decent 0% drink options, and the coffee was perfect. We'll definitely be back in Summer.
