About Thorncombe Farm

Tucked into the Dorset countryside near Hardy's cottage at Higher Bockhampton, Thorncombe Farm is a peaceful spot that keeps things refreshingly simple. The site welcomes campfires – always a draw for families and groups – and there's a good mix of pitches including bell tents if you fancy ready-pitched comfort. Facilities cover the essentials (hot showers, hook-ups, drinking water), and dogs are welcome to join the adventure.

The 4.8 rating reflects its easygoing appeal, though some visitors note the rustic vibe means you won't find Wi-Fi or elaborate amenities – this is camping at its straightforward best. With Dorchester, the Jurassic Coast and Thomas Hardy country all within easy reach, it's a solid base for exploring without the fuss of larger, more commercial sites.

Really relaxed and peaceful campsite set in green fields on a small-holding. Clean toilet facilities and worm showers with decent pressure. Dorchester just 5 minutes drive away for dinner and supermarket to stock up

Lovely campsite, very peaceful. All we could hear were the sounds of the animals. Shower and toilet facilities were great, and super easy to book online.

Lovely peaceful setting with friendly hosts. Great forest for walking, running, mountain biking 5 minutes up the road. Would highly recommend.

I stayed at Thorncombe Farm in September 2025, and had a really lovely time! It's such a gorgeous location, and Felix was so welcoming. I had an entire field to myself and it was the most peaceful night. The campsite is surrounded by fields of goats and sheep on one side, and a massive area of natural forests with loads of trails and paths for hiking on the other. I ran 10k around the wood and saw some stunning views. Would highly recommend this site to anyone looking for peace and nature!
