About Woodfrys Farm

Try a true taste of rural Dorset at Woodfrys Farm – pick a pitch at this intimate 25-acre smallholding in Melbury Abbas and you'll be joining owners Hannah and Liam, their kids and a resident gang of pedigree rare breeds including Hereford cattle and British Lop pigs. With just a handful of pitches at the foot of Melbury Hill, plus a lake and clear chalk stream running through, this is properly peaceful camping where cars stay parked away from tents and quiet descends after 10pm.

Days here revolve around simple pleasures: paddle in the stream, light a campfire (logs available on site), spot herons and deer by the water or tawny owls at dusk. The small farm shop stocks local produce, and eco touches like compost toilets and recycling reflect the owners' commitment to treading lightly. Dogs are welcome year-round but must stay on leads around the livestock.

The lovely town of Shaftesbury is five minutes by car or a scenic hour's walk along footpaths, with beaches, National Trust properties and walking trails all within easy reach.

Stayed for 3 nights in June, absolutely stunning campsite located around a large pond. The toilets and showers were very clean and worked perfectly. It was very quiet and peaceful and if you like walking, there are plenty of footpaths nearby, we will definitely be returning. The owners are lovely and made sure we had everything we needed. Lots of wildlife to see also .

We had a lovely few days here as a family, making lasting memories. We arrived slightly ahead of check-in but Hannah was happy to help show us around and let us pick our pitch. We opted for a lakeside spot with car access to unpack, stunning views and close to a toilet for our little one. The whole site is wonderful for young children to explore with plenty of nature to see and hear. The chalk stream/rock pool was a hit too! The pitches are a good size, spaced apart well and all come with a picnic bench and fire pit. The farm shop was also a handy addition with lots of delicious, local goodies. Another luxury were the warm showers (complete with toiletries!) and washing up stations with hot water too. We would highly recommend this site to anyone who is looking for an almost wild feel but with some creature comforts to ensure your holiday feels just that.

Our family of four adults, two toddlers and a baby (split across two medium tents) had such a wonderful time on camp. The environment was tranquil and idyllic (when the kids weren’t going bananas) with the lake, streams and hills. The facilities were super clean and well maintained. The farm shop was perfectly stocked for essentials and quality produce that couldn’t be more local! Toddlers loved the farm animal tour and watching the bats and wildlife throughout the day. We will be back for more adventures…

We had such a wonderful time! My grand-daughter and dog, who especially enjoyed paddling in the stream. Loved it, beautiful countryside, starry sky, wildlife and farm animals. Fire pit and picnic table on each pitch, compost loo, little farm shop, welcoming family owners onsite.
