About Holyrood Farm Campsite
Perched on the hillside just outside Shaftesbury, Holyrood Farm Campsite takes full advantage of its elevated position with tiered pitches that guarantee every camper a slice of those stunning Dorset views. What visitors say
What hits you the moment you arrive is the view, and it’s absolutely stunning. To your right sits the town of Shaftesbury, home to the famous Gold Hill of Hovis advert fame, while to your left the unspoilt Dorset countryside rolls out before you. As we pulled in, a Spitfire was looping through aerobatics overhead and a Tiger Moth drifted lazily into the distance. Far from disturbing the peace, the planes only deepened the sense of stepping into a bygone era. Close your eyes and you could be standing in a vintage Dorset of decades past. The facilities here are simple but clean, and you won’t find electric hookups, as this is a working sheep farm built on the foundations of an Anglo-Saxon terraced settlement. That’s the reason the pitches are tiered, so every camper gets to drink in those glorious views. As mentioned, Shaftesbury lies to the right of the site, reached by following a track and footpath straight into the town centre. It’s an easy enough walk, and when you arrive you can turn left for lunch and a drink at The Two Brewers. To the right of the path you’ll find the foot of Gold Hill, its cobbled slope lined with charming Dorset cottages climbing the steep incline. Helpfully, there are benches all the way up, making the climb far more manageable.

Jason runs a lovely campsite with clean toilets and showers, and amazing views over the Blackmore Vale. A fab location, A short 15min walk up to the centre of Shaftesbury. No electric hookup, but that's exactly why we stayed here, as we don't need that and don't want to pay for something we don't want. Definitely be coming back.
