Bowling Green Farm sits in the Blackdown Vale, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty a few miles south of Shaftesbury. The countryside here attracts deer, buzzards and pheasants. Longleat House and Safari Park lie 22 miles away; Stourhead House and Gardens, Kingston Lacey and Yeovil Air Museum are all within reasonable driving distance. The South Coast beaches at Weymouth and Bournemouth are around 25 miles and 22 miles respectively. Closer to hand, Gold Hill in Shaftesbury and the historic market towns of Blandford and Salisbury can be reached easily. For outdoor activity, cycle paths criss-cross the area, there is fishing a mile away, and golf and a gymnasium nearby.
The cottage itself sits on the farm courtyard, a standalone property with two bedrooms and one bathroom, sleeping four. One room has a double bed, the other two singles. Ground-floor living means no stairs; the living and dining space includes a Freeview TV and DVD player, and the kitchen is equipped for cooking proper meals. Access to eight acres of farmland makes for straightforward walking straight from the door, and there is an unfenced grassed area suitable for children to play. Parking is on site. One well-behaved pet stays free.
Essentials like electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are included. There is a washing machine and tumble dryer in the shared laundry room. A travel cot and highchair are available, and the property has wheelchair access adapted for assisted users. Smoking is not permitted on site. Families and couples are welcome; the pub is two miles away and shops three and a half miles.

Here's a balanced review you could post: We chose this cottage because it was advertised as accessible, but unfortunately it did not meet our accessibility needs. The corridor leading to the toilet was so narrow that it was impossible to get a wheelchair through, which made the bathroom inaccessible. There were also no grab rails in the bathroom, and the multiple steps into the property would present significant challenges for anyone with reduced mobility. In addition, the floor surfaces throughout the cottage were uneven, creating further accessibility and safety concerns. On a more positive note, the surrounding area was beautiful, peaceful and very picturesque, making it a lovely location for a quiet break. The kitchen was well equipped with all the facilities we needed during our stay. However, the cottage itself felt quite tired and in need of some updating. The décor was dated, and there were numerous cobwebs which detracted from the overall impression of cleanliness and maintenance. While the location has a lot to offer, I would not recommend this property to wheelchair users or those requiring accessible accommodation, as the accessibility described in the listing did not reflect the reality of the property.

Great few days staying in Drakes at BGF. Really friendly family, made to feel welcome. Great base for Bovington tank museum, Gillingham station, Gartell light railway and as mentioned by the owner a visit to Shillingstone where heritage rail provision is in progress. Great views from the accomodation and served it's purpose perfectly.

It wasn't very well sign posted, it's no good if you're over 6 foot tall, there's damp in the bedroom and bathroom and scratches on the wall in the living room, beetles in the lounge and wood lice in the bathroom. It isn't very dog friendly as there's no fences separating the cottages and there's a pony in a so called pen with an electric fence, owner has his own dog roaming around and also has loose chickens/hens and ducks loose on the premises.
