Old Orchard Cottage

Old Orchard Cottage dates from around 1800 and retains the character of its age—exposed beams and an inglenook fireplace with bread oven are among the original features that survive. The cottage stands within 300 acres of farmland adjacent to the owners' farmhouse, with gardens overlooking the lake and plenty of birdlife to watch from the patio. There is an unfenced river and lake on the grounds, so this suits families comfortable with water features nearby.

Two bedrooms sleep five: one double and two singles, with a cot and highchair available. The bathroom has a bath with shower over. Downstairs, the living and dining room centres on a woodburner (logs included), and the kitchen is fully equipped for self-catering, with an electric oven, hob, dishwasher, microwave and washer-dryer. Wi-Fi, electricity, bed linen and towels come as standard. There is parking for two cars on site. A pub lies within a mile.

Sherborne town, known for its two castles and independent shops, is four miles away. The Dorset coast is accessible for days out—Lulworth Cove and Durdle Door to the south, or Poole's natural harbour and award-winning beaches nearby. No smoking inside the cottage.
