About Dorset House

Dorset House is a small boutique bed and breakfast a short walk up from the centre of Lyme Regis, run at a level of care that has brought it a shelf of awards - four wins as best B&B in the Dorset Tourism Awards, a national best breakfast title from the AA, and recognition from the Good Hotel Guide. It is a handsome house, decorated with restraint: pale walls, good linen, contemporary art and none of the clutter that often comes with the format.

There are only a handful of bedrooms, which is deliberate. Each is individually designed, with proper beds, well-fitted bathrooms, and views towards the sea or the hills behind the town. Details are thought through - decent toiletries, real milk, sensible lighting, space to unpack - and the whole house is quiet in the evenings.

Breakfast is the reason many people book. It is cooked to order from a written menu and might include hand-roasted coffee, slow-reared local bacon and sausages, homemade granola, honey-baked figs or a tofu scramble, finished with flapjacks or freshly baked sourdough. Vegetarians and vegans are catered for as thoroughly as anyone else. Hosts are helpful with restaurant bookings and walking advice without hovering.

The position works well for exploring the Jurassic Coast. The Cobb, the beach and the fossil shops are downhill and close, Charmouth's fossil beaches are ten minutes by car, and the coast path runs east towards Golden Cap and west into Devon. This suits couples and solo travellers who would rather have a very well-run small house than a large hotel, and who care about what turns up on the breakfast table. Rooms are limited, so book early for summer and half term.

We first visited dorset house 10 years ago for our honeymoon. We returned this month for our 10th anniversary and were privileged to be the first guests of the new owners who went out of their way to make us feel welcome. The room was elegant and breakfast was generous and delicious Thanks for making our anniversary so special

We had a fabulous overnight stay at the Dorset House! We received a very warm welcome by Jason and were informed about what to do and see in Lyme Regis. The room was exceptional with lovely sea views. We also enjoyed the breakfast selection and personal touch. We can definitely recommend this B&B!

We have just had an amazing long weekend at Dorset House Lyme Regis. From the moment we walked in, we were wowed by firstly a warm welcome by both Lyn and Jason, to the absolutely beautiful decor to the personal touches to welcome us: our names on our room door, the breakfast menu with our names on. To absolutely beautiful four course breakfast all using local produce. If you are a foodie what a great way to start your day. Lyme Regis has become a foodie destination, and Dorset House has a great list of recommendations where to eat, from cafes to top end restaurants. Alongside recommendations to some amazing walks. Can’t wait to come back. Thank you x

My wife and I stayed at Dorset House at the beginning of May. We were warmly welcomed by Jason who immediately made us feel at ease. On the first evening, we enjoyed an excellent pizza and a couple of beers down on the seafront in their restaurant. The £50 voucher which we had unexpectedly been given by Dorset House on our arrival was lovely as were the staff there. As for the breakfast, we cannot recall having enjoyed one more anywhere (and we've stayed at a lot of places). We would stay there again without any hesitation on future visits to Dorset.
