Galloway Forest Park is within reach on foot, and the Solway coast – including Mossyard and Carrick beaches – sits just a short drive away. Kirkcudbright, with its galleries and visitor attractions, is nearby, as are outdoor pursuits from sailing to zip-lining at Laggan. The Granary is a pub with rooms in Dumfries and Galloway, offering a one-bedroom base for two people looking to explore this corner of south-west Scotland.

Upstairs is a kingsize bedroom and shower room with a walk-in enclosure. Downstairs, the living and dining space has a multi-fuel burner, a 32-inch smart TV with Freesat and Netflix, and a kitchen fitted with an electric oven, gas hob, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. Essentials including electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are covered; fuel for the burner is provided to start with. You have private parking for two cars and access to a shared courtyard with seating. One step leads into the courtyard. One dog is welcome.

The pub serves steak pie, fish and chips and other straightforward food, with a selection of beers and cocktails. Staff are known for being attentive. The atmosphere is relaxed and dog-friendly. Non-smoking indoors.

This isn't a gastro pub, nor does it pretend to be. The menu was varied with plenty of choice. The food was tasty, filling and well served. The place was clean, the staff were very welcoming and friendly, as were the locals. Dogs are very welcome and if I lived there, it would definitely be my local.

The service was great and really quick, but the food was just average. It's a bit like a Wetherspoons, which isn't really my scene. If you're looking for a sports bar though it would be ideal. Loads of screens, lots of space and nice bar staff.

Great wee pub, the Guinness was the best I have had in a very long time, temperature, cleanliness and texture was perfect 10/10. Tried some food and watched some sport. Will be back! Food could be slightly better but I'm just picking if saying that.

Cannot speak highly enough of the brilliant staff, great service from friendly people. If you are looking for a dog friendly venue in particular this is the place. My German Shepherd was treated like a king! Food was great and great value for money.
