The Rhins of Galloway peninsula is a working landscape of moorland, farms and dramatic coastline. Kirklauchline Cottage sits elevated in this rural setting, looking out across the water. Portpatrick, a working fishing village with restaurants and bars along its harbour, lies just over 3 miles away. From the cottage you can walk straight into countryside that leads down to cliff-edge paths and the start of the Southern Upland Way, a 212-mile trail that runs coast to coast. The locality is known for seabirds—the RSPB Scotland reserve at Mull of Galloway draws thousands during spring and summer—and for gardens, including Logan Botanical Gardens at Port Logan.

Ground-floor living means you step straight into the cottage without stairs. There are two bedrooms—a double and two singles—and one bathroom with a bath and shower. The open-plan living and dining space has a wood burner to settle by when the weather turns, plus a Smart TV. The kitchen is fully equipped to cook from. Essentials like heating, electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are covered, and the wood burner comes with initial logs. An enclosed garden with decking and furniture sits to the side, and you can park three cars on the property.

The cottage takes one well-behaved pet. No smoking is permitted inside.

Had an amazing time. Everything was perfect. The cottage had great views from every window. The coast the country side. We even saw deer rabbits cows and loads of lovely birds. You also see the farmers come along with the tractors. Great starter pack. A relaxing stay had by all. Will be booking again.

This was a nice cottage but had no usable garden just a small decked area in need of attention and a stoned driveway. There were no signposted footpaths for walking and much of the surrounding area seemed to be used for excavating rocks

We wouldnt hesitate in coming back here. We have a reactive dog and it was more than suitable for her needs as we didnt see a soul all week! The cottage itself was comfortable and cosy. We look forward to returning.

Just booked for the 3rd time. Realised I hadn't left a review previously. I've travelled solo with my pupper and with family and both times our visit had been wonderful. I always visit around January for the dark skies, which don't disappoint. Being stood outside late at night on a clear night looking at the stars after glorious sunsets is incredible. The cottage has everything you could need, it's warm and cosy. My dog is totally at home here and loves nothing more than snoring in front of the fire after a good walk on one of the local beaches which are mostly empty, or around the Port. We've visited most places locally and the community is welcoming and friendly. It's great being in the middle of nowhere looking out onto the sea, especially on a clear day watching the boats go by. Looking forward to my next visit!
