Little Cottage

Dumfries and Galloway

View on Google Maps

Wigtown sits at the heart of Scotland's southwest, within reach of the Galloway Hills, the Dark Skies Park, and the Solway coastline. The village itself is known for its bookshops, galleries and cafés. Little Cottage puts you on the edge of this landscape: a single-bedroom base where you and one other can come back to a fire and a king-size bed after days spent cycling the 7 Stanes tracks, fishing the rivers, or walking the reserves and beaches nearby.

The cottage is on one level inside—living room with television and doors onto the garden, shower room, and upstairs bedroom. Essentials like heating, electricity, Wi-Fi and towels are covered. Outside there is an enclosed garden with seating and a gas barbecue. One dog stays free. There is cycle storage and on-road parking. The cottage does not permit smoking.

Wigtown Bay Local Nature Reserve, the largest of its kind in the UK, is the main draw for birdwatchers: pink-footed and greylag geese arrive in autumn and winter, and an interpretation centre broadcasts osprey nests during spring and summer. The Bladnoch distillery offers tours and a shop. Less structured days might involve browsing the plant nursery, taking a quiet afternoon by one of the fishing rivers, or driving to the beaches and villages along the coast.
