Drumlanrig Castle and its estate are on the doorstep, with waymarked walks and cycle routes threading through the surrounding countryside. The castle itself opens to visitors, and there's an adventure playground within the grounds if you're coming with children. Fishing is available on the estate, and the wider area around Dumfries offers everything from market-town browsing to outdoor pursuits along the rivers and hills of Dumfries and Galloway.
Maple Brae sleeps eight across four bedrooms and two bathrooms, making it suitable for extended family or groups. The main living space centres on a wood-burning stove, and there's an enclosed garden with a wood-fired hot tub. Essentials like electricity, bed linen, towels and Wi-Fi are covered. The kitchen is equipped for self-catering. Dogs are welcome here. No smoking throughout the property.
The cottage is positioned for a quiet countryside base rather than constant activity—the appeal lies in having space to spread out, a garden to use year-round (especially the hot tub), and easy access to everything from gentle strolls to longer hikes without needing to travel far.
