The Bladnoch Distillery sits minutes away, Wigtown's independent bookshops are a short drive off, and Newton Stewart has restaurants and shops. Beyond that, the Galloway Forest and Dark Skies Park open up forest trails, mountain bike routes and walking paths. The Machars Peninsula offers coves, beaches and villages to explore; golfers will find courses nearby, and the 7Stanes trails attract serious cyclists.

River Cottage is a terraced house across from the river, completely updated inside while keeping its traditional appearance. Everything is on the ground floor: a living space with woodburner and Freeview TV flows into a dining and kitchen area with electric cooker and washing machine. One bedroom has a double bed, the other two singles, and there is one bathroom with bath and shower. An enclosed garden runs behind, with patio, barbecue and lawn—secure for children and dogs. Parking is on the road outside. The cottage sleeps four and welcomes one pet free of charge. Essentials including heating, electricity, wi-fi, bed linen and towels are provided, along with initial fuel for the stove and a welcome pack.

A play area is a ten-minute walk away, and a country pub and restaurant close by. One step leads from the patio to the gravelled area, and one step down to grass. No smoking inside.

River Cottage is a lovely and very clean cottage in a peaceful setting. The living area includes a cosy log burner and a well appointed kitchen area that has been thoughtfully provisioned. The beds in both bedrooms are comfortable and the bathroom is clean and modern with a decent electric shower. The garden is vast and our dog loved running in it and relaxing in it (it was a bit cold in early March for humans to spend much time there). This is one of the most dog friendly cottages we have visited with numerous wee touches to ensure a comfortable stay for all the family.

Lovely cottage in a lovely area. Bus stop directly outside the front door. Local pub serving food a few doors down and where we made very welcome. Spotless! Despite being pet friendly. A dishwasher would be good to have. Otherwise👍 👍

Beautiful location, house and garden. Ideal getaway from it all. Plenty of walks and beaches nearby you can even go canyoning (Galloway Canyoning). There's a pub and a distillery at the end of the road. The co-op is a short distance away in Wigtown.
